5th LBS STACMarch 2021

• 9 countries with reformed institutional, policy and legislative frameworks for IWWM developed and adopted;

• Benefit 20,000 households from improved wastewater treatment;

• 5,000,000 cubic meters per year of wastewater treated;

• Reduction of 1,000,000 kilograms of BOD per year; 200,000 kilograms of Nitrogen per year; and 50,000 kilograms of Phosphorus per year;

• 12 communities with improved wastewater management and 3 watersheds with improved water resource management;

• 31 million cubic meters per year water conserved due to land use protection, effective water conservation/efficiency practices at end-use consumption.

1.- Actualización del inventario de las fuentes terrestres de contaminación (FTCM) al ecosistema.

2.-Evaluación de los principales indicadores físico – químicos (nutrientes, materia orgánica) bacteriológicos, biológicos y tóxicos orgánicos en las aguas de las bahías. Evaluación de la calidad de los sedimentos (metales, CO, NO, MO, HCT)

4.- Análisis y comparación de los resultados alcanzados con los registros históricos.

5.- Análisis de la efectividad de las medidas de mitigación para las FTCM propuestas en los estudios anteriores.

Revisión y colaboración con “Informe del Estado del Área del Convenio de Cartagena: UnaEvaluación de la Contaminación Marina Proveniente de Fuentes y Actividades Terrestres en laRegión del Gran Caribe” (Informe SOCAR), oficialmente aprobado en la 4ta FTCM COP) en junio2019.Participación en la 4ta COP – FTCM y en la 15va COP – Convención de Cartagena, junio 2019Participación en una reunión virtual con la Secretaria del Convenio de Cartagena y con los Puntos

Focales FTCM con el objetivo de repasar las principales actividades del bienio 2019- 2020 ypresentar el borrador de trabajo del bienio 2021-2022 (julio 2020).En el marco del Proyecto Regional GEF IWEco se completó una encuesta sobre el Laboratorio de

Ensayos del RAC Cimab con (octubre 2020).Participación en Teleconferencia organizada por el Proyecto GEF IWEco “Protocolo FTCM:

Catalizando la cooperación regional para combatir la contaminación marina”. En dichateleconferencia el RAC Cimab presentó sus principales líneas de trabajo y los principales proyectosen los que ha trabajado con la Secretaria del Convenio de Cartagena (noviembre 2020).Colaboración con la Secretaria en la de la “Estrategia para el Desarrollo del Programa Ambiental

del Caribe. Periodo 2020 – 2030”, documento que guiará el trabajo de la Secretaria del Convenio deCartagena para los próximos diez años. RAC Cimab está elaborando su propia estrategia comoCentro de Actividad Regional.En el bienio 2019 – 2020 se participaron en las Teleconferencias del “Open-Ended Working-Group

on Monitoring and Assessment” (OEWG) del cual RAC Cimab es miembro.
