There are 28.3 million people use Internet in Russia. It’s 21% of 18+ population.

IDN.IDN demand in Russia

o For Russian, as well as for Chinese the English is not clear and is not supported by cultural traditions.

o The roman spelling of domain names constrains development the Internet in Russia, where English is owned by units.

o In result in Russia completely there is no culture of domain names, there is no motivation in purchase of a unique domain name.

o Cyrillic-lingual registrations will not only create hundreds of thousands of attractive potential new domain names, but they will also enable our customers in the near future to reach out to their own communities and protect their established brands more effectively

In June of 2003 with supporting of Russian Chamber of Commerce, we founded Russian Language NIC as nonprofit organisation. RLNIC become first full cyrillic ccTLD registry in Russia. Thousands .РУ domain names has been registered by registrars from Moscow, St.Petersburg and Novosibirsk.

RLWG of MINC

To cater to public policy issues, we at Regtimeinitiated Russian LanguageWorking Group of MINC together with Russian language experts, representatives of the President of Russia Executive Office, The Russian Academy of Sciences and Russian Institute of Public Networks. This has allowed us to coordinate amongst Russians and others in the Cyrillic language community.

CyrLINC

On initiative of Regtime.net Cyrillic Languages Internet Names Consortium (CyrLINC.org) was founded in 2003. CirLINC aims to coordinate efforts to develop Multilingual Internet name system and applications within cyrillic languages countries and territories.

Representatives of Ukraine, Bulgaria and Greece(as observer) join to CyrLINC.

Cyrillic Tables for IDN

We have helped obtain consensus on the cyrilliclanguage tables amongst Russian, Belarus, Ukraine and Bulgaria issuing internet draft “Internationalized Domain Names Registration and Administration Guideline for Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Byelorussian languages”.
