• Check out the dead tree. A dead tree is called a “snag” and has several uses in an ecosystem. This tree might have been a “highland” tree that was killed when the salt water tide was too high in a storm.

Snags are important because:

• You are facing northwest. You can see a fishing pier where the Weedon Island road ends. This is actually the remains of an old bridge that connected the island to Shore Acres.

• Can you see the other side of the old bridge?

• Here on Weedon Island the wetlands act as a natural barrier and help clean the water. Do you see the islands of red mangroves being formed?
