To play in stateEleven area tennis players will be in Lexington this week for
the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament.Sydney Ledington and Anthony Warf will represent the
Corbin tennis team while Danny Butcher will represent the Whitley County Colonels. Ledington was the only local player to be seeded in the top 16.
Four Corbin doubles’ teams will be in action. Seth Heinss and Josh Jewell, Chandler and Connor Maguet from the Redhounds while Catherine Crawford and Shelby Phillips and Emma Kate Carloftis-Elizabeth Jackson from the Lady Redhounds.
State tournament action begins at 8 a.m. Thursday at Shillito Park and the University of Kentucky Tennis Center.
Butcher, a junior, will play Trinity’s Tanner Love, a junior at 8 a.m., while Warf, an eighth grader, will take on Paducah Tilghman senior, a ninth-seeded player at 8 a.m.
In doubles’ Chandler (senior) and Connor (sophomore) Maguet will take on Ryle seniors Alex Arnett and Michael Savoia at 10:30 a.m. while Heinss (sophomore) and Jewell (junior) will meet Johnson Central seniors James Chafins and Jordan Puckett at 1:45 a.m.
Ledington, a sophomore, will play Casey County’s Leigh Tylyn at 10:30 a.m.
Crawford, a junior and Phillips, a senior, will take on third-seeded Mackenzie Eichengreen and Maddie Pinto of Kentucky Country Day at 11:45 a.m. Jackson, a senior and Carloftis, a freshman, will take on Pikeville duo Jessica Branham and Fallon Smith at 1:00 p.m.
The state tennis tournament is a double-elimination event and will be completed Saturday at the UK Tennis Center.
