Statement of Purpose

About me 

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” The practice of this aphorism made me diligent besides developing my love towards work. I am Suryatheja, 21 years old. I have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the reputed University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (which is affiliated to Kakatiya University). During the undergraduate program my industry visits and Laboratory practices created more passion in me for Industrial Pharmacy. In order to learn more about the intricacies involved in the area, now I would like to pursue a Master’s program in Industrial Pharmacy. My long term objective is to see myself as a Scientist in one of the Research and Development organizations. 

Academics 

The Role of my Alma Mater, Vidyaranya High School is unforgettable in molding me a unique personality. I had the seeds of an excellent education sown here. I maintained a good rapport with the faculty members, which motivated me towards keen career advancement. I scored 84.83% in the 10th grade. This result filled me with more confidence and left me with a predilection for academics. 

Next milestone in my academic carrier was “Nava Vignana Bharathi Jr College.” As I looked up to this institution to help me to broaden my ken, I developed a penchant for Chemistry, mathematical and physical sciences, an inclination for problem solving and a desire to know more.  Here I was equipped with right level of self-confidence and maturity

           

Fighting off tough competition and being among the top 5% in the EAMCET conducted for about 200,000 students, I managed to secure a seat for Bachelor of Pharmacy in University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, one of the top 5 best colleges in India. This college with its wealth of facilities and faculty kindled the embers of interest into flames that consumed every bit of information provided.  

My course as a part of undergraduate study has helped me in acquiring a firm footing in topics such as Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and other topics related to pharmaceutical studies

comprehensively, taught by highly qualified and competent faculty members, and also through practicals, frequent guest lectures, interaction with industrialists.    

Experience 

As part of Academics, I have undergone one month industrial training program at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. This program helped me to learn the different aspects of Preparation, Coating of Tablets, Filling of Capsules, ELISA, HPLC, GC, Preparation and evaluation of emulsions, suspensions, creams and pastes, Dissolution and Disintegration studies of tablets. My theoretical knowledge helped me to understand the complexity of practical approach with ease. 

I also participated in National Pharmacy Week during the Years 2006 & 2007 and attended Indian Pharmaceutical congress, Held in Hyderabad, India and seminars like Computer Based Drug Design, Personality Development Skills. 

Why M.S ? 

Industrial Pharmacy is such a branch that any person has a heart to feel and mind to understand its depths and applications, highly diverse as well as expanding by leaps and bounds, cannot resist himself choosing his career in this field.  

I was very much intrigued by the role of Pharmaceutical sciences in the modern day health care system, I developed high interest to pursuit my graduate studies in Industrial Pharmacy and I find the research work being carried out by some of the most experienced  Professors of your faculty is very interesting and promising. I found myself very much interested and attracted to the work being done in your university and realized that the existing graduate program perfectly suits my requirements. I would like to further hone my already existing skills by pursuing graduate studies at your university. I can aver that I possess the basic aptitude, discipline, and perseverance to sustain the motivation and drive needed for my graduate study.  

 Achievements 

In order to keep myself ahead in Academics, I have got a decent command on MS-Office, Windows and C .I got an opportunity to exhibit my leadership skills when I organized the industrial tour in January

2007. Besides this I won several prizes for participating in Debate, Essay writing and Painting competitions conducted at University level. My participation in seminars: National Pharmacy week (2005, 2006, 2007); Indian Pharmaceutical Congress; Latest trends in Pharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics; Computer based drug design helped to know the future prospectus of the industry. During this period I got an opportunity to share and develop the knowledge by interacting with the experienced professionals of the industry.

2STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

CAREER OBJECTIVE:

Looking for long-term association with chemistry department, where individual talent, skill, honesty and hard work are acknowledged, where conducive work along with quality of life is provided, and seeking assignments in research and development of the department. 

EDUCATION:

Striving for betterment and improvement has been my motto in all aspects of life, and the same applies even to my academic career. I have had the good fortune of completing my school education at Seven Hills High School. This is one of the best schools in our district. There my venerable teachers taught me the inestimable and invaluable benefits of discipline and dedication. My innate propensity towards science stimulated me to take up PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY in high school education and completed it with 86.2%.A strong inclination towards chemistry and drug formulations has propelled me to take up Bachelors degree in Pharmacy at SR  COLLEGE  OF  PHARMACY ,affiliated  to KAKATIYA UNIVERSITY, Warangal through statewide exam called EAMCET. I stood among the top 10% in the entrance examination. This guaranteed my purpose and further cemented my will to take challenges .

DURING UNDERGRADUATION:

In the four years of my undergraduate study I was exposed to myriad of subjects like Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, etc. During this period I carefully nurtured my passion for Chemistry (Physical and Medicinal) . Chemistry is such a branch that any pupil who has a heart to feel and mind to understand its profundity and applications, and heedful of its diversity and expansiveness, cannot resist himself without choosing his career in this field. Research on the Chemistry of living things spurs advances in medicine. The most important development in Chemistry that mesmerized and excited me was use of Nanotechnology for the well being of mankind and also De novo Synthesis which has proven to be a powerful tool to whelm various difficulties in synthesis of new chemical entities. 

SUBJECTS STUDIED:

My course as part of undergraduate study has helped me in acquiring a firm footing in topics such as Analytical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Pharmacy, PHARMACOLOGY, Microbiology & Immunology, Bio-pharmaceutics, Computer applications and Biostatistics, Remedial Biology and Mathematics, Pharmaceutics and other topics related to Pharmaceuticals. Further  guest lectures given on  this subject by Prof.G.Achaiah, who are excellent and dedicated teachers and highly skilled scholars of Analytical and Medicinal Chemistry have inspired me to select chemistry as my major subject of interest. 

INSTRUMENTS HANDLED:

As a student of undergraduation I’d been well acquainted with sophisticated instruments like UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Colorimeter, Flame photometer, Conductimeter, Potentiometer, Zeta Meter, PH-meter, Freeze Dryer,etc... A great exposure to above techniques and equipments has also inspired me to select chemistry as my major subjects with a good insight into Instrumental Analysis.    

WHY MEDICINALCHEMISTRY:

I have a strong belief that, “it is the designing of new drug molecules that forms the backbone of Pharmaceutical Industry and for this industry largely depends on chemists”, so it is logical of me to choose medicinalchemistry as my major to excel in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences also.

                  3Statement of PurposeThe urge to achieve and prove myself among the greats in the history of science has been my ambition from the days I was first introduced to the captivating concepts of science and medicine in particular. The mental ability to approach a problem with the right amalgam of logic and reasoning has supported me in inching towards my goal. As a first step out of school I decided to take up biology, physics & chemistry as my optional subjects which would lay the foundations for my goal in 10+2.

      Joining b.pharmacy was an important milestone and, as a person with a sense of respect & love for human life I embraced the field of pharmacy. I was in particular

attracted towards pharmacology, the systems way which drugs interact with the biological at the receptor level & bring about the desired modification in the physiological system& how few drugs show Adverse drug reactions ,the synergism & antagonism between drugs & interactions of drugs with other biological agents like the cytochrome p450 which metabolize most of the drugs & renders them inactive , how few drugs cross blood brain barrier (like l-dopa) & why few others don’t ,how drugs produce different pharmacological response at different doses has always fascinated me & inspired me to take pharmacology as my major in Ms ,it has also ignited the quest for knowledge which I would like to achieve through research in pharmacology.

      With the advancement in technology, pharmacology has also evolved into a distinct discipline which has helped the field of pharmacy every where in improving the therapy of ailments & drugs which would definitely increase the life expectancy of all life.

      The principles that I learnt & am learning through various subjects in B.pharmacy have helped me in having a vision that would help me in my professional life as a pharmacologist.

      My active participation in the two day national seminar (conducted at our college) as a volunteer has helped me learn how to organize an event & the work involved in such organizations .As a student of pharmacy I learnt that practical work & experience is more important than just theoretical learning ,as our profession involves extensive experimentation & research .I have also learnt how simple drug molecules are synthesized in laboratory ,how aseptic conditions are met, how sterility of products are tested, how muscles react to chemical agents such as acetylcholine, neostygmine etc.

      In academics I have put my best efforts & have secured 80% avg till my third year of B.pharmacy & have actively participated in seminars & lab work. Being the class representative gave me a sense of responsibility and duty .Having faith in me , my lecturers would ask me to perform experiments like dissolution testing ,performing Tlc ,U.v-spectroscopic evaluation of concentration of drugs ,either alone or in a team which I lead. This is part of our course work, which has given me the opportunity to gain an insight into conducting an experiment, the planning of an experiment & the common problems faced in an experiment .The seminar on buffers which I gave in my class has helped me gain knowledge in that topic as well as served as an experience in teaching.

      After gong through the web pages of university, going through the faculty details and the state of the art equipment and laboratory facilities I am convinced that an M.s & PhD from your university would pave the way for my successful career in pharmacology .I am sure that all these factors will facilitate the realization of my dreams & aspirations .I take this opportunity to thank university faculty for their patient perusal of my application.

Out of my own volition I have chosen Pharmaceutical Sciences, which offers ample scope for research activities and these parallels with my aspiration of a M.S. Degree. Pharmaceutical Sciences is considered with the study of the scientific study of the composition, properties, and activities of substances, Drugs and the changes they undergo. With the advancement in technology, pharmaceutics has also evolved into a distinct discipline which has helped the field of pharmacy every where in improving the efficacy of drugs by studying drug absorption, distribution, metabolism etc., which would definitely help in the manufacture of better drugs.

The Secret of mankind's success, strength & glory is knowledge. Knowledge is not something we are born with, it is through curious observation and constant learning that the wealth of knowledge is amassed. I believe that even if a subject is miles away from the reach of our contemplation, it can be learnt much through research & experience.

 

PRESENTATION:

I am an undergraduate student completed my B. Pharmacy at TALLA PADMAVATHI COLLEGE OF PHARMACY, affiliated to Kakatiya University, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is one of the best institutes in the State with excellent faculty & competitive environment.  My constant urge to learn, explore and a desire to be a part of the fast growing world by contributing to its development have been instrumental in kindling interest in me for graduate study.

 

SCHOOL AND COLLEGE EDUCATION:

I have excelled in Academics in every step of my education. In my secondary education 10th (10th grade equivalent) secured 86.5%. Then came the phase of Intermediate public examination (12th grade equivalent), in which I secured 96.3%. In Pharmacy I have secured an aggregate of 81.3%. till the end of my third year

 

My education is filled with great competence.  The curriculum provided me with strong back ground in Pharmacy.  I was exposed to the subjects like Forensic Pharmacy, Administrative Pharmacy, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, etc., along with Intensive lab work.

 

MY SUCCESSFUL ACADEMIC CAREER
