Summary Corrective Acton Plan No. 2Q13-017

- On Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at approximately 9:31 p.m., two LosAngeles County deputy sheriffs, assigned to the Los Angeles CountySheriffs Department's Lakewood Station, received a radio call ofgunshots in an apartment complex

When the deputies arrived at the apartment complex, they were directedby the caller to the rear parking lot where the shooting suspects werebelieved to have fled. In the parking lot, the deputies contacted thedecedent artd another man. Both men were wearing clothing similar tothe clothing wom by the reported shooters}.

While one man readily complied with the deputy sheriffs instructions,the decedent acfed as if he was arming himself. in fear for his life, adeputy sheriff discharged his weapon one time and struck the decedentin the chest.

In (heir lawsuit, the plaintiffs (fhe decedents three minor children and mother) alleged the decedentwas subjected to unreasonable force by a member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

This incident was ti~oroughly reviewed by the members of the Los Angeles County SheriffsDepartments Executive Force Review Committee. Whife their review found that the force used by thedeputy sheriff was reasonable, necessary, and in compliance with Department policy, appropriateadministrative action was imposed upon two members of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department

This meeting of the County of Los Angeles Contract Cities Liability

Tryst Fund Claims Boaxd was called to order by Curtis Morris, at 11:13 a.m.

The meeting was held in the City of Norwalk, Community Meeting:Center,
