Alternate Fuel Vehicles use a nontypical form of

energy for operation: biodiesel, propane, electricity, ethanol, natural gas and others.

Hybrid vehicles combine an electric motor with an internal combustion engine powered by gasoline or diesel fuel. An onboard system recharges the vehicle's batteries so no plug-in charging is needed. Hybrid vehicles as currently manufactured are not alternate fuel vehicles.
