SZF (State Health Insurance Foundation) is Suriname’s largest and most competent health insurance company which offers the most comprehensive package of services at the lowest premium. Every Surinamese resident regardless of employment, age and state of health can insure him/herself at low premium rates and receive a good benefits

package. SZF offers an excellent service which enables the population to enjoy its comprehensive package. SZF’s goal is to provide medical care in Suriname to persons who are registered. Today, more than 145000 persons, including 41,000 civil servants and their families and 400 companies make use of the services of the SZF.

– MISSION & VISION

The mission of SZF is to optimally satisfy the needs of the

insured in the field of health insurance.

With this mission the following vision has been developed.

The SZF is a social, national, undertaking, working health

insurance company on a non- profit basis. Integrity and

transparency to the employees and insured are

determining factors in its activities. SZF’s opinion is that

the access to medical care has to be guaranteed to the access to medical care has to be guaranteed to

everyone. Solidarity between healthy and sickly persons is

an important social achievement that has to be maintained.

The SZF recognizes itself primarily as a “saviour” of the

insured within the health sector. To execute this, SZF

optimally makes use of its knowledge within medical care.

This way, SZF takes care of the adequate and quality care

during illness and supports the prevention of illnesses by

providing services and recommendations.

• The insuredMandatory insured persons are:

• Civil servants for whom premium is paid,

including their family;

• Employees of parastatal organizations

including their families, as far as these organisations

have joined the SZF;

• Retired Civil Servants having a pension from

the Pension Fund, and for whom a premium is paid,

including their family, with the exception of retired Civil

Servants who are currently employed by a different

employer other than the State of Suriname; employer other than the State of Suriname;

• the Widow, Widower, or Orphan of a

deceased (retired) Civil Servant who is entitled to a

pension and for whom premium is paid;

• Former Civil Servants including their family,

who receive unemployment benefits from the State and

for whom premium is paid.

Voluntary insured persons are:

• Companies and their employees, with or without family.

• Persons, (individuals or families), including pregnant

women.

Foreigners with or without a valid residence permit, may apply for

insurance individually or with their families.

The SZF-card covers the several services such as:

• Doctors

• Specialists

• Medicines

• X-ray

• Laboratory• Laboratory

• Hospital

• CT and MRI scan.

Some services such as glasses, physiotherapy,

speech therapy, dietetics, are provided by

reimbursement.
