Board Approves Continuation of Solar Incentive Program The Board of Water and Power Commissioners has approved the continuation of the Solar Incentive Program (SIP) beyond its initial sunset date of December 31, 2016. The SIP offers LADWP customers incentives to offset the cost of installing a solar rooftop system, either at their home or business. Since the program’s inception, approximately 186 megawatts of customer-owned solar from more than 25,400 solar systems have been installed in Los Angeles. The program has paid $298 million in rebates with $19.4 million remaining. The Board approved the use of the remaining funds under the new, streamlined SIP, which will be available beginning Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
LADWP Seeks Candidates for Student Engineer ProgramLADWP is currently accepting applications for its summer 2017 Student Engineer Program (SEP). Candidates will have access to career mentoring, theoretical and technical instruction, and complete, project-related infrastructure work tasks. Student Engineers will be matched up with LADWP engineers to work with in the Water, Power and Joint systems. The SEP eligibility requirements and employee application are available at www.ladwp.com/sep.
The deadline to submit a completed application is January 20, 2017. Successful applicants will be notified of their selection by March 2017. For questions about the program, send an email to: [email protected].

Storm Brings Several Inches of Rain to Los Angeles Los Angeles has seen 6.23 inches of rain since October 1, the beginning of the water year. That amount of rainfall is 161 percent of where it should be for this time of year. While this last storm produced a remarkable amount of rain locally, the snowpack in the Eastern Sierra, where a portion of our water supply comes from, remains slightly below average for this time of year at 92 percent. While the Los Angeles area has seen rain in recent weeks, it doesn’t mean an end to California’s historic drought. LADWP continues to urge customers to shut off exterior sprinkler and irrigation systems prior to a rain event and to keep it off for up to a week thereafter.
CA Friendly Landscaping at LADWP FacilitiesA total of 26 LADWP facilities have received water-conserving, drought-tolerant makeovers this calendar year. The re-landscaping efforts are part of a continuing effort by LADWP to replace turf at all its facilities in order to conserve water. The styles of gardens range from, but are not limited to, southwestern to Mediterranean to industrial. The 26 transformed facilities are projected to save more than 11 million gallons of water annually, akin to enough for 104 single family homes in Los Angeles. Work was completed at the last two facilities of this calendar year at the LADWP Distributing Station 25 in the 3000 block of Riverside Drive and the Los Angeles Aqueduct Filtration Plant on Sepulveda Blvd. in Sylmar.
