Why do Amsterdam startups scale slower?
• Most Amsterdam startup successes are older than 10 years: Booking, Takeaway, Adyen, TomTom (so fall off this chart)
• Gitlab and Elastic moved to the USA
• Much smaller VC industry in Amsterdam. This may be related to the fact that the biggest successes (Booking, Tomtom, Adyen) were never backed by Dutch VCs
Why compare only Amsterdam?
• The direct benchmark is made possible by the Amsterdam tech ecosystem employment report, launched in 2019
• Other cities coming soon!
