Starting a DVD With VLC Media Player

Preamble: VLC Media Player is a free, multimedia player for various audio and video formats including DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. VLC Media Player has been deployed in all electronic rooms and is available on all multimedia carts and sign-out laptops from the Support Centre. This tutorial details how to quickly start a DVD using the VLC Media Player. Step 1: Log into the computer (if you have not done so already). Locate the DVD drive on the front of the computer. Press the Eject button on the drive and allow the DVD tray to slide out. Gently place your DVD in the tray (label side up) and re-press the Eject button. Allow the drive to close.

Note: As a security precaution, computers do not automatically run inserted discs.

Step 2: Double-click the My Computer icon on your Desktop. Then, double-click the DVD drive (usually the D-drive) and your DVD will automatically start. Alternatively, you can also right-click the drive in the My Computer window and select Play with VLC Media Player in the resulting menu.
