Why did you choose Operis?

I chose Operis for the opportunity to receive extensive and structured training which would allow me to develop strong financial modelling skills. In addition, the range of projects that Operis work on allows me to gain vast knowledge across project finance and to be exposed to projects all over the world.

The experience at Operis demonstrated to me that I would be learning from leading professionals in the project finance world. Finally, the option to undertake the CFA qualification, with courses, study leave and learning materials provided by Operis is something that really appealed to me.

What projects have you worked on recently?

I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects from a variety of locations and sectors such as renewables, healthcare, and transport. In particular, I have been involved in the financing of a water desalination plant in Oman, the refinancing of three Turkish hospitals and the financing of a wind farm in Ontario.

More recently, I have worked on the refinancing and operating of a Swedish hospital as this is one of the largest PPP hospitals in the world. The original project had a capex of approximately £15bn. The project became operational in 2016.

What do you enjoy most about working at Operis?

The company culture is something that I find the most enjoyable at Operis, and what makes the company stand out from other firms in the finance community. There is a large focus on growth and development of new hires in the firm which gives a great opportunity to learn modelling and audit skills.

Company-wide weekly update meetings provide information on various projects that are currently being undertaken. This allows for a holistic view of the company’s operations which keeps all employees informed and working towards the same goals. Operis has team building events which provide a great way to meet your colleagues within the firm and expand your network.

What has been your best experience managing a project at Operis?

I have managed a number of interesting deals in Canada, UK and mainland Europe, in a variety of different sectors such as renewable energy, health & education and transport.

Recently, I led the model audit of the Finch West Light Rail Transit project in Toronto. I enjoyed working on a deal that would tangibly improve the transport network in the local area, by easing congestion on Finch Avenue West through creation of a new light rail line. My team, located across both the Toronto and London offices, communicated well with the client and each other to ensure deadlines were comfortably met. I was particularly pleased with how senior members of the team took time to ensure they guided junior analysts through complicated parts of the process.

Analyst at Operis

The Role: Financial Modelling AnalystMain Responsibility: To provide modelling and analytical expertise for a wide range of financial model build, model audit and systems development assignments and related activities.

Key responsibilities include:• Using financial and numerical

analysis to operate, enhance and fine-tune models

• Supporting the Advisory team’s work through building bespoke systems for clients

• Building financial models to a specification provided by the Project Manager. All aspects of modelling may be required to support the completion of the project

• Completing the detailed analysis of a model and associated documentation in order to provide assurances on a model audit.

Working at Operis:Systematic Financial Modelling Courses: Operis provides formal training for the graduate intake to a number of investment banks. You too will benefit from attending these courses, with the valuable opportunity of additional one-on-one tuition. Our training is not only a fantastic grounding in financial modelling but will also give you a great start in your career.
