Workforce Education helps eligible students acquire job skills and education so they can return to work.

We offer free or reduced tuition to eligible students who enroll in an approved training program. This video is designed to help you determine your eligibility for funding.

You may be eligible for more than one source of funding. In those cases, a Workforce Education Specialist will determine which funding provides you with the best opportunity.

Eligibility Criteria (must meet one of the following):

• Collecting Unemployment Insurance

• Exhausted UI within the last 2 years

• Received a layoff notice

• Displaced homemakers (divorced, widowed, separated)

• Formerly self-employed

• Separated from the Armed Forces

Program Benefits:

• Awards are a fixed dollar amount that vary from quarter to quarter.

• The award for Fall Quarter will be $750 for full-time students. Part time students will be prorated.

• Awards beyond the first quarter are made on a case-by-case basis and require that applicants first apply for all other possible funding sources.

• You need to re-apply every quarter that you need funding.

• You will be sent the application by email prior to the start of each quarter.

Students currently receiving UI MUST attend the Commissioner Approved Training/Training Benefits (CAT/TB) Orientation:

Tuesdays 2:30-4:00pm, 3rd Floor, College Center, Room 3449

Program Eligibility:

• Currently receiving Temporary Assistance For Needy Families (TANF) with approval from DSHS case manager to attend school

• Enrolled in an approved program of study

WorkFirstProgram Requirements:

• WorkFirst students are required to submit a participation tracking sheet to the Workforce Education office once a week

• WorkFirst students are required to meet with a Workforce Education Specialist once a quarter.

• Meet OG income guidelines (next slide)

• Completed less than degree or certificate

• Apply for Federal Financial Aid within your first quarter

• Enroll in an approved pathway of study

Program Benefits:

• 100% of required tuition and fees for up to 45 credits of study in an approved pathway

• Students receive a pro-rated book voucher each quarter based on class enrollment (not to exceed $1000 a year).

Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET)

Program Eligibility:

• Receiving Basic Food Assistance (food stamps) as of the first day of the quarter

• Confirmed eligibility by DSHS

• Enrolled in an approved program of study

• A monthly benefit to buy groceries• Automatic enrollment of school-aged children in free

• Call 1-877-501-2233 to request an application by mail, or

• In person at your local DSHS office.

If you begin receiving Basic Food, you must call the Workforce Education office to receive BFET funding.
