StepOne
Askforaletterofsupportfromtheheadofthedepartmentattheuniversitywhere
youwouldliketoestablishachapter.Makesuretheletterisonuniversityheaded
paperandindicates:
Thenameofthedegreeprogram/course Thelengthoftheprograminyears
Thecourserequirements(ormodules)Theinstitutionmustofferadegreeprograminpetroleumengineeringorother
industryrelatedcourseofstudy.
StepTwo
Submitlettertostudentactivities@spe.org.WewillobtainapreliminaryapprovalfromtheBoardRegionalDirector.Afteryoureceivepreliminaryapproval,complete
therestofthestepsbythedeadlinewegiveyouoryourchartermaybedelayed.
StepThree
FindtheSectionclosesttotheuniversity.Requestaletterofsupport.AskthemtoreviewtheTeamworkBetweenSectionsandChaptersdocument.
StepFour
SelectafacultysponsorandcompletetheFacultySponsorNominationform.Be
preparedtoprovidecontactinformation.Anycandidateforfacultysponsormustbe
amemberofSPE.
StepFive
FilloutthePetitionforCharter.Includecontactinformationforatleast15SPEstudentmemberswhowanttoformthechapter,theproposedfacultysponsor,and
thedepartmenthead.
Keepinmindthattoformachapter,youmusthaveaminimumof15neworcurrent
SPEstudentmembersattendinganinstitution.StudentswhoarenotyetSPEmembersmayjoinonline.Studentswhoarealreadymembersmustkeeptheir
membershipcurrentbyrenewingeachyear.

Callameetingofallstudentmemberswhowanttoformthechapterandelectthefollowingofficers:president,vicepresident,secretaryandtreasurer.
Youmayelectadditionalofficersifneeded.BeawarethatofficerpositionsareprovisionaluntiltheBoardofDirectorsapprovesthechapter.
StepSeven
CompletetheStudentChapterOfficerReportformaftertheelection.

Gatherthesedocumentsandattachthemtoanemail:

ApprovalProcess
Afteryouhavesubmittedallforms,wewillpresentyourchapterpetitiontotheSPE
BoardofDirectors.SincetheBoardonlymeetsthreetimesperyear,youmustsubmitallinformationbythedeadline.Ifyoumissthedeadline,youmayhavetowaitupto4
monthsforthenextBoardmeeting.UponBoardapproval,thechapterwillreceiveUSD
100.00financialassistancegrantandchapterstationerytobeginchapteroperations.
