Dlrector"s Notes

Starshine began as a summer camp performance at Camp Shomria in the summer of 1997. Two years later it was produced by Dori Skye and Melanie at Toronto's Poor Alex Theater. The is the first part in a 3 piece children's musical series entitled, A Story Of Three. I was elated when the opportunity arose to produce the show in my beautiful hometown of Ann Arbor. The "seeds" for Starshine were planted here 5 years ago, while Paul Kates and I were living in the area. Consequently, it seemed like the perfect place for Starshine's American debut. The production that you are about to see would not have been possible without the constant support of the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre and its directors, Cassie Mann and Suzi Peterson. Paul and I have been extraordinarily lucky to work with an incredible group of young actors, who have devoted a plethora of time and energy to insure the success of Starshine. Adrianne Clark has been an extraordinary assistant director, I thank her for her continued patience and support. Paul, thank you for continuing to put my music to words, and making my dreams reality. My brother, Gabi Adiv wrote the music for Stand On One Foot, for this (and many other things) I owe him many thanks. Finally, I must thank my family who continue to support me in pursuit of my dreams.

Musical Director's Notes

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed working on this production of Starshine. Having this show performed by the youth for the youth is how the show was originally intended and performed. I am so happy to be working with such a committed and talented group of young adults. They all worked very hard to get this show together in such a limited amount of time. I would like to thank Suzi, Cassie and the Civic Theatre for giving Avi and I this opportunity.

I would like to give a special thanks to Adrianne for sharing her knowledge of the theater with us and making this show look great. !Thanks Blitz! I don't even have to mention how grateful I am to Avi and his writing, you make it so easy. I would also like to thank the Appleman family and H. B. Chalder for opening up their homes and being so generous. Most of all I would like to thank all the great people I have met in the city of Ann Arbor and for being a place where no idea is too crazy, even if it's writing musicals. Hike!
