Starfish Class Newsletter Starfish Class - ‘Stars in the making !’ 29 th Novemb er 2013 Our learning Year 1 In literacy we have looked at instructions and verbs. In maths we have been looking at missing numbers up to 20. Reception This week we have learnt qu, ll, ss, ff, zz please see the homework sheet your child has brought home for an explanation for the sounds and the actions. We have also been looking at capital letters linking them to their lower case letter. In maths we have been focusing on more and less. Outdoor Equipment You may have noticed our new sand pit on the green area, this is a fabulous new resource for the children to use, please could you encourage your child not to stand on the lid as this is not what it has been designed for. Also please be careful when using the equipment in a morning and after school, especially when it has been raining or is icy as it can become slippery. Thank you. Christingle Service Thank you to all those who came, I'm sure you will agree it was a lovely service. Boxes please If you have any empty boxes, no bigger than this piece of paper. Please could you bring them in for the children to use for model making. No egg boxes or toilet rolls, please. Thank you. Infant Nativity Play – Early Warning We have begun practising the nativity. Most children in starfish class will be either stars or animals. Please could you provide a set of black clothes, eg. Black t-shirt and black trousers/leggings to wear for the performance. This does not need to be in school until Wednesday 11 th December. There are a few children that will have other parts and you will be informed of these in the coming week separately. Thank you. Sharing our learning We would like to share the children's learning this term with you. You are invited to come along on Thursday 12 th December at 9:30am to look at your child's learning journal with them. It will also be an opportunity to taste the Christmas baking that the children have made. It would be lovely to see you there, unfortunately due to space we can only accommodate 1 adult per child, however we will be repeating this each term. This proved very popular with parents last year, we hope that you can join us. Dates for your Diary • Wednesday 11 th December – Theatre production in school • Thursday 12 th December, 9:30am – Shared Learning for Reception • Monday 16 th December – Infant Nativity , two performances 2pm and • Wednesday 18 th December – School Christmas Lunch Snack Monday: multi grain hoops and milk Tuesday: oranges Wednesday: yoghurt Thursday: celery Friday: crumpets Please let a member of Starfish staff know if your child has any allergies. HomeworkThis week we have introduced 1 new sound ‘qu’. This is a sound that has 2 letters and 1 sound, this is called a

diagraph. The children have also looked at 4 other diagraphs, ss,

ll, ff, zz. These are all found at the end of words and make the same sound as the single letter sound, it is

just longer. There are no sheets for these sounds. Thank you for your help.
