WHY: All Filipinos should have one common standard time, to develop a culture of punctuality, to practice wise time management, and to be exponentially more productive at work and at home. Here is an excerpt from Page 2 of the IRR:

HOW: To achieve its goals, RA10535 and its IRR call for Philippine Standard Time to be displayed in all government offices, private corporations as well as in key public places via the installation of “Synchronized Time Devices.”





SYNCHRONIZED TIME DEVICES According to PAGASA, the official timekeeper of the Philippines, Synchronized Time Devices are clocks that automatically set themselves to Philippine Standard Time without any human intervention. Manual setting of time is not permitted. The SyncRight Clock is such a device.

SyncRight has an outdoor antenna that picks up signals from Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to automatically set itself to Philippine Standard Time.

Sync-iT WI-FI CLOCKS Sync-iT Clocks uses your Wi-Fi internet connection to set itself to Philippine Standard Time. They have the same prices as our SyncRight Clocks on Page 5. Sync-iT Clocks are very easy to install. Simply plug them into the nearest AC outlet. If Wi-Fi internet is present at the clock location, it will connect to the PAGASA NTP (network time protocol) server and display Philippine Standard Time. It will do this once a day to ensure the time is always correct. Here’s a photo of thirty-eight (38) Sync-iT Clocks being tested before delivery to a customer:

While they are mostly synchronized, there is a time difference of 1 to 3 seconds between the clocks. This is because of Wi-Fi internet LATENCY. Using your internet, Sync-iT REQUESTS the time from the PAGASA NTP Server, which RESPONDS after a slight delay. This is the LATENCY. It can be reduced with a very fast internet connection but not totally eliminated. A 1 to 3 second difference is already very good – better than COSC (Swiss watch) standards!

So if you plan to install clocks in places where GPS signals cannot penetrate but have Wi-Fi, such as basements or underground parking areas, use Sync-iT Clocks.
