Students at McPhersonCounty High School willbe serving members ofthe community on April20 as they are in theprocess of coordinatingseveral projects with localsenior citizens. Kirk Neal,Erin Connell, and LacyAbel met with the seniorsFebruary 17 and sharedideas on what theythought might be done,such as raking leaves,trimming trees, cleaningflower beds, taking offstorm windows and otherchores. Senior citizensare invited to fill outcards and return them toAunt Bea’s Cafe statingwhat they wish to havedone or they may call theschool and give them theinformation.
The MCHS basketballboys completed their reg-ular season with a 59-52win over Maywood Fridaynight. Scoring for theLonghorns were EricMumm, Wyatt Arensdorf,Joe Cochran and DruMelvin.
Will and Sue Masters’son, John, arrived inTryon Friday morning onhis father’s birthday andspent the weekend withhis parents. The three at-tended church at the Cal-vary Baptist Church inNorth Platte.

The home of Louis andLawrence Hoban, wholive about 15 miles southof Tryon, was destroyedby an early morning fireFebruary 14. The broth-ers escaped the fire bylowering themselves froman upstairs window by arope made of sheets tiedtogether. The brothers es-caped by pickup to theRed Mann place to phonefor help and an ambu-lance for Lewis who suf-fered a cracked vertebra,while escaping. TheTryon and North Plattefiremen both assisted inthe fire, but it was too fargone to save anything.
Tom Burch was chosento represent MCHS atBoys’ State in Lincolnnext June, and JimSchmidt was chosen as al-ternate to Boys’ State.
Miss Pamela Huffmanfrom the Nursing Collegeat Hastings, spent theweekend with her par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. ClaytonHuffman and Bruce.

Frank Correll receivedword that his sister, Mrs.Ed Rudolph had startedon her journey to Africaas a nurse for a threemonth stay. She is inBoston now.
Due to the bad storm,Mr. Macomber was aboutthe only one from theLena community attend-ing the wedding of MissMargaret May to RalphArensdorf on Valentine’sDay. Ralph was employedat the Macomber ranchbefore entering the serv-ice.

Mr. and Mrs. Vern Dob-bins visited with their sonand daughter-in-law, Mr.and Mrs. James Dobbinsand sons of Burwell, andlooked over the placewhere they are going tomove. Their sale will beon March 7. Vic Paxtonhas purchased the Dob-bins ranch.
The REA meeting heldin Tryon Tuesday eveningwas attended by most allof the residents ofMcPherson County, andsome people from adjoin-ing counties also at-tended. Many of thepeople who had notsigned up previously touse the REA electricity,did sign up at the meet-ing, and some will sign upin the near future.
School District No. 26did not hold school thislast two weeks due to theillness of their teacher,Miss Lila Pyzer who en-tered the hospital inNorth Platte for surgery.

Lucille Wells is holding apublic farm sale at Ring-gold today. A nice offeringof milk cows, horses andmachinery is being madeat this sale, being cried byH.M. Johansen of NorthPlatte.
A tardy news item is thatof the marriage of MissDillie Lamb, seconddaughter of Mr. and Mrs.Harry Lamb, to KennethSchroeder of North Platte.
Mr. and Mrs. Miles Sny-der and Jimmie, visitedher parents, Mr. and Mrs.Harry Blackstone nearCurtis last week.

Mr. and Mrs. H.A.Shriver returned Tuesdayfrom Stockville wherethey had been called lastweek owing to the deathof Mrs. Shriver’s mother,Mrs. Wilson.
The high school basket-ball team at Tryon took afast game from theNichols team on the localfloor last Friday night.The final score was 14 to9.
Having decided to sellthe Latter Day SaintsChurch, setting one-halfmile east of the L.L. Mannranch, the sale is nowopen for the bids. All bidsmust be received by the20th of March, 1930.

Larry Trumbull, 90, ofNorth Platte, and formerMcPherson County resi-dent, received word in No-vember that he wouldreceive recognition fromthe National Rural LetterCarriers’ Association forhaving completed 60years as a member. Hewill receive official recog-nition at the June 12 stateconvention.
Trumbull retired fromthe U.S. Postal Service in1988 after a 33-year ca-

reer as a rural letter car-rier. He retired as post-master at Tryon in 1988.
Trumbull started inRinggold and moved toTryon when the post of-fice was closed in Ring-gold and routes wereconsolidated.
Trumbull is also an AirForce veteran who servedafter the Korean War. Heand his wife Helen, ob-served their 63rd wed-ding anniversary in
December.Some of the highlights
of his career included car-rying mail with a snow-mobile, airplane, andfour-wheel drive in 1969,and credits his wife withhelping him deliver mailon bad snow days.
Trumbull was namedthe “1981 Driver of theYear,” and this was pre-sented to him for hisrecord of driving 17 yearswithout an accident.
Larry Trumbull will be honored June 12 for his 60-year membership in theRural Letter Carriers Association. He was a U.S. Postal Service employee formore than 30 years, retiring as postmaster at the Tryon office in 1988. Trumbull,90, and his wife, Helen, have been married for 63 years.
