The acclaimed Dream, from world-renowned choreographer Christopher Bruce, is a breathtaking and sublimely humorous celebration of Britain’s Olympic year. Dream has received standing ovations throughout its tour with its witty references to both sporting competition and Jubilee celebrations past and present.

Exploring the fantasy and ritual of weddings, Noces by French choreographerAngelin Preljocaj is an astonishing spectacle of dynamic movement and evocative costumes performed to Igor Stravinsky’s exquisite score Les Noces.

Virtual Descent is a new piece by award-winning Company dancer and house choreographer Eleesha Drennan, set to a recording of a newly-commissioned percussion concerto from BBC National Orchestra of Wales’ resident composer Mark Bowden.

northern Ballet return with a Mixed Programme that can only be seen at the Stanley & audrey Burton Theatre.

Dutch dance master Hans van Manen has created more than 100 short classical ballets during his illustrious 60 year career with, amongst many others, Nederlands Dans Theater and the Dutch National Ballet. Northern Ballet dancers perform van Manen’s Concertante, a classical ballet inspired by and set to Frank Martin’s Petite Symphonie Concertante.

We dare you not to be moved by the breathtaking Angels in the Architecture which makes a welcome return to Northern Ballet’s programme. Created by the American choreographer Mark Godden and danced to Aaron Copland’s beautiful Appalachian Spring, it is based on the lives of the Shaker people.

Kenneth Tindall’s star is on the rise. The British dance maker, who is also a Premier Dancer with Northern Ballet, created his debut piece Project#1 for the 2012 Mixed Programme. It won the Bundesjungendballett Production Prize at the 26th Choreography Competition in Hanover. This much anticipated follow up is not to be missed.

Joss Arnott Dance return to the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre with The Dark Angel, an eclectic new Mixed Programme by this exciting young Company.

The opening piece of the programme, Origin, is an opportunity to see Joss Arnott himself take to the stage in a solo that explores his fascination with the body.

The final two pieces will be danced by all female ensembles. The first, 24, is inspired by the Alexander McQueen exhibition Savage Beauty which was held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The second, Threshold, is an energetic piece that demonstrates the power of the female dancers.

Levantes Dance Theatre’s witty, warm and vibrant performances have attracted lots of attention from the dance world and affection from audiences. In Two Peas Without a Pod, the duo look at our human partnerships. With flamboyant costumes and a colourful and playful set, Levantes mix together the absurd and the familiar to take you on a fantastical and indulgent trip.

Following their sell-out performance in 2012 we’re delighted to welcome Ballet Black back to the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre with a new Mixed Programme and story ballet.

The Mixed Programme of premierès will feature exciting work from up and coming choregraphers Ludovic Ondiviela (The Royal Ballet), Robert Binet (National Ballet of Canada) and world renowned dance maker Javier De Frutos. British choreographer Christopher Marney (Gothenburg Ballet, New Adventures) creates Ballet Black’s newest story ballet War Letters, an episodic journey through relationships built during World War Two.Friday 28 June at 7.00pm

Discover a world of grace, poise and beauty as SAA-uk Dance Academy present Vidya, an evening of classical Indian dance. There will be two styles on display - Bharatanatyam which combines expression and rhythm with sculpturesque movement, whilst Kathak is driven by fast footwork, spins and storytelling.

Ballet Central return with an exciting programme of ballet, contemporary, jazz and narrative dance. The varied repertoire features a mixture of newly commissioned works and much-loved revivals which showcase the talent of the Company’s young and emerging dancers.

New works this year will be from highly acclaimed choreographers including Darshan Singh Bhuller, Christopher Marney, Stacey Haynes, Kenneth Tindall and Sara Matthews. The programme will also feature re-staged works by company founder Christopher Gable CBE.

Indian classical dance

Leader of Northern Ballet Sinfonia Geoffrey Allan will be joined by Principal Conductor of English National Ballet Gavin Sutherland in this entertaining concert which will take an affectionate look at the role of the Violin in Hollywood, and will include work from iconic composers such as John Williams and Franz Waxman.
