LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Dear Friends, I am gratiied to share with you this update on the meaningful impact your support of AND JUSTICE FOR ALL has had on our community. Because of you – your generosity, your countless hours of service, the events you attend and support, and your ongoing commitment to make justice accessible to those most in need – AND JUSTICE FOR ALL’s partner organizations were able to provide much needed legal services to 29,690 individuals during 2016. With your help, families were able to stay in their homes, saving Utah hundreds of thousands of dollars in emergency housing costs, while improving each family’s economic outlook. Because of your support, more than 4,087 clients received legal help to escape domestic abuse, allowing Utah to save thousands of dollars in costs related to emergency abuse situations and law enforcement. And thanks to you, individuals with disabilities received the support and access they needed to improve their employment prospects and overcome employment discrimination. Meeting basic needs, defending economic security, ensuring physical safety, safeguarding access to healthcare, and creating a path to justice. Your support produces real results that change lives. I feel privileged to be in the company of so many of you who recognize the value of creating and supporting a more just society here in Utah. On behalf of AND JUSTICE FOR ALL, please accept my sincerest gratitude. Dan Barnett, Chair Leadership Committee Parr, Brown, Gee & Loveless 35th Annual Law Day Run... • The mission of “AND JUSTICE FOR ALL” is to increase access to civil legal services for the disadvantaged and for individuals with disabilities in Utah by creating and sustaining resources to support civil legal services, sharing and consolidating resources so that services are delivered in a cost-efficient and effective manner, and strengthening the member agencies and the distinct roles they play in the delivery of civil legal assistance.

    THANK YOU TO OUR

    2016 Supporters

Thank you to all of our supporters whose generosity makes the vision of justice for all a reality to thousands of Utahns. This list includes contributions received for the 2016 Annual Campaign through December 31, 2016. Every effort is made to accurately reflect your support. If you find an error, please contact Kelly at 801.924.3182 so we can correct our records.

Persistence Pays Off… Janet's husband committed suicide, leaving her with eight kids to raise by herself. She was able to get a job and help from social security, and moved into a house with a rent-to-own contract. She lost her job the same week she moved in and had already paid $5,000 in earnest money. No longer able to get financing, the Landlord decided he had to sell the home as soon as possible even though he had signed a lease with her. He then accused her nanny of smoking on the property so he could evict her. The Land-lord and his attorney used scare tactics and tried to bully her into moving on several occasions. They refused to refund any of the earnest money, spent a lot of effort but did not use the statute properly and did not have proper cause. Utah Legal Services was able to file a motion to dismiss and defend her eviction successfully. The landlord attempted to evict again and ULS continued to defend Janet. Eventually, a very favorable settlement was reached where Janet was able to get most of her earnest money back and move out at a time that worked for her and her family. By that point, she was able to get a new job and get back on track with her life.
