PREPARATION1. Remove the hardware from the backside of the shutter. Seal the entire shutter frame and insert with the Multi-Purpose Sealer; using the glaze wash brush. Lightly sand; wipe off with a lint-free cloth.

Basecoating Shutter Frame2. Basecoat the surface of the insert with Bleached Sand; using the 1-1/4” glaze wash brush. Basecoat the entire shutter frame, side edges and backside of the insert with Asphaltum; using the glaze wash brush, achieve an opaque coverage.

Candle Wax Distressing3. Rub candle wax on the areas of the entire shutter frame and the backside of the insert that you want the Asphaltum or original wood to show through the top coat…..corners, edges, sides, etc.

Apply a coat of Bleached Sand over the entire shutter frame and the backside of the insert; using the 1-1/4” glaze wash brush.

When dry, sand over the entire shutter frame and the backside of the insert. For further distressing, re-sand the areas that the candle wax was applied to. Con-tinue until you have achieved desired eff ect. Wipe off with a lint-free cloth.

Stenciling Shutter Frame4. With the Versailles Fleurs Stencil, Asphaltum mix-ture and the med stencil brush, stencil the two cross supports on the front of the shutter frame.

Position the stencil on the surface; refer to photo for placement. Secure with the Frog Tape or hold with your fi ngers.

Load the med stencil brush with a bit of Asphaltum + Soft Black, swirl the brush on a blue shop towel to remove excess. Apply color in a circular motion one direction and then in a circular motion in the other direction (changing directions frequently) over the stencil. Fill in some of the design fully and leave other areas incomplete. When completed, this application should have a slight distressed appearance. If it is too solid or perfect, simply use a moist piece of the blue shop towel with a little Faux Glazing Medium, to gen-tly rub away some of the excess color.

Carefully remove stencil by holding one end with your fi ngers and lifting the opposite end. Clean stencil and brush immediately; using the DecoMagic Cleaner.

Repeat steps with the Fleur-De-Lis Background Stencil, stenciling the four Fleur-De-Lis on the shutter frame surface; using the large stencil brush.

Image Transfer Background5. The Old World Map Transfer Paper will be applied to the front surface area of the insert using the Image Transfer Medium. Trace the oval opening shape of the shutter frame to the surface of the insert.

Apply a generous coat of the Image Transfer Medium to the surface area and the front side of the paper; using a dry glaze wash brush. Then lay the paper face down and fl at into the Medium pressing fi rmly.

When dry (for at least 8 hours) use a wet terry cloth over the image to gently scrub away the paper, until the image begins to show clearly. Then switch to using your fi ngers for the remaining fi bers.

If you are not sure if you have removed all of the paper, let it dry for a few minutes, any remaining paper on the image will show as fuzz. Remoisten the image and rub it away. Allow to dry.

Applying Crackle Paste6. Place some Crackle Paste on your palette. Be sure to close the jar until you need more and keep the edges of the jar clean to ensure that the jar will re-seal prop-erly. Pick up a small quantity of Crackle Paste with the edge of the palette knife and begin applying it to the surface. Work with small amounts at a time to give you more control. Your application should be very thin. Lay the knife fl at to apply the medium, then stand it up on the edge to lightly scrape away excess. Apply random-ly in small overlapping patches to avoid developing a set pattern; refer to photo for placement. Allow to dry well and then very lightly sand to remove any sharp or loose pieces.

Rouging Background Color7. Dampen a blue shop towel with water, pick up Faux Glazing Medium and Asphaltum, slightly blend on your palette, then randomly rouge color over the surface (the paper and Crackle Paste areas); refer to photo for placement. Allow to dry.

Starry Stenciling8. With the Starry stencil and Soft Black, randomly stencil over the surface and image transfer; using the med stencil brush. Position the stencil on the surface; refer to photo for placement. Secure with the Frog Tape or hold with your fi ngers.

Load the med stencil brush with a bit of Soft Black, swirl the brush on a blue shop towel to remove excess. Apply color in a circular motion one direction and then in a circular motion in the other direction (changing di-rections frequently) over the stencil. Fill in some of the design fully and leave other areas incomplete.. When completed, this application should have a slight dis-tressed appearance. If it is too solid or perfect, simply use a moist piece of the blue shop towel with a little Faux Glazing Medium, to gently rub away some of the excess color.

Carefully remove stencil by holding one end with your fi ngers and lifting the opposite end. Clean stencil and brush immediately; using the DecoMagic Cleaner. When dry, lightly mist over the surface with the matte spray.

watch room, structure roof• Lamp Black—lighthouse roof, both walkway bases
