3. difference of ordinary and proper mass

be able to:

1. correlates the distinguishing characteristics of representative music from Renaissance in relation to history and culture.

2. analyze an example of music from the Renaissance and describe how the elements are used.

3. compose a simple mass song

Discussions & Lectures - PowerPoint Presentation: What is your idea about music? Renaissance period – Historical background Characteristics of Renaissance arts

Seatwork Essay Writing – What is music? What do you mean by “Music is all around us, all you have

to do is, Listen.”

Homework (group activity) Pick one painting from the Renaissance period and identify the different styles used in the

particular painting. (see attached rubrics for evaluation)

Valuing: What is the importance of studying music?

JOURNAL WRITING no. 1 – Read “When to Start Music Lessons” by Cheryl Ann Bellavia. ANSWER: If you are a parent, when do you prefer your child to start music lessons? Why?

Day 2 Group Presentation – Picture/Painting Analysis: Each group will present their picture analysis. Ask the following:

1. What are the usual themes used by artists?2. Based on their art, what is your idea about their music?

The students will analyze one example of Renaissance music. They will identify the different characteristics present in the music.

JOURNAL ENTRY no. 2 – Create any paper-based painting/drawing showing one style of Renaissance art. Explain your work.

Mass Song Composition – Performance Task Preparation: 1. Create/compose a simple melody from a given set of lyrics of a mass song.2. The class will be given a rubric for the basis of their grade on the composition.3. For the evaluation of the performance, the group will submit a recorded (video format)

version of their composition together with the lyrics and chords.

Journal Entry no. 3 – Draw/Cut-out/Print your favourite Renaissance musical instrument. Give a short description on the structure of the instrument and explain why it is your favourite.
