Standard Course Time Block Schedule Work Group Faculty, staff, and administrators
Outcomes
Students can get classes they need with minimum conflicts
Standard course schedule aligns with campus activities and promotes campus engagement
Time blocks maximize space utilization and minimize campus footprint
Final exam schedule conflicts are eliminated
Standard course schedule provides the ability to have a policy on the distribution of course offerings across schedule zones
All colleges/schools have the same reset point to align offerings with the standard course schedule

Workgroup Methodology
Compared current standard course schedule to actual scheduling
Comparison suggested the current schedule was not meeting needs – students are not able to create class schedules using a standard template
Identified criteria
Reviewed models from peer and aspirant schools
Prepared a draft model to be shared broadly in September
Will collect qualitative and quantitative input/feedback

Criteria for a Standard Course Time Block ScheduleThe schedule must:
Be student-centered
Have clear demarcations between time blocks
Allow MTWRF, MTWR, MWF, MW, TR, WF, and Friday/Saturday classes
Accommodate 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-credit courses
Encompass the full day and the full week
Allow 10-15 minutes between classes

Address the needs of commuting students
Address the needs of adult learners
Include specified lab blocks
Allow room for innovation within the schedule for evening classes, extended experiential/field classes, and interdisciplinary opportunities

Common meeting time for student groups and department meetings without class conflicts

Timeline
August: Preview the work-to-date of the work group; create awareness of the project.
September: Share a draft standard course time block schedule broadly; collect data from discussions and a Qualtrics survey. Review feedback/input and adjust draft schedule as deemed appropriate.
October: Provide a recommendation to the Provost and President.
