Train to Dijon

Page 3: Standard 41 Furniture catalog

Train to Dijon was born from boredom with the ubiquitous

90-degree angle. The table, bench and chairs are tilted

at a 12-degree angle – enough to be noticeable without

compromising structural integrity. The collection is crafted

from European Beech that is bleached to emphasize the

playfulness of the shadows. The hand painted yellow reveal

underneath the top was inspired by blurred landscapes,

subtle pops of color, and gleaming lights when looking out

a train window. Train to Dijon references the classic farm

table, but with a modern slant.

Il Palio

Page 5: Standard 41 Furniture catalog

Il Palio is a solid Walnut table, with an oil finish,

and is a nod to Andrew’s father’s trademark of

pairing an organic table top with a geometric

base. Named after a square in Siena that hosts a

biannual horse race, the table is essentially two

intersecting squares bisected with a circular top: A

round race in a square.

All Y’alls

Page 7: Standard 41 Furniture catalog

All Y’alls is the result of a conversation with Dallas

interior designers who wanted bigger tables with more

bling. Rising to the challenge while staying true to his

minimalist roots, Andrew designed a table that melds

modernism with Texas flare. The 24k gold corners rift

on the idea of pre-fab, knock down furniture.

Heavy metal was inspired by turning the shadows

of a table into light. The stainless steel reflects the

surrounding light and illuminates what is normally

lost in shadows. Andrew incorporates the shadow

into his pieces; both the shadow cast on itself and

the shadow cast on the surroundings.

Stripe table was inspired by the Gees Bend Quilts

of Alabama. The quilts, which use geometric textile

scraps and bold stitching for their design evolve as you

encircle them.

The machined lines within the table top seem to move

as the light and shadows change depending upon the

viewers angle.

DKNY Chairs

Page 12: Standard 41 Furniture catalog

DKNY approached Standard 41 and wanted a

“feminized” version of Standard 41’s dining chair for

their showroom. After three weeks of prototyping the

choice came down to two similar chairs except one had

a return on the leg and one had one gentle curve run-

ning the entire length of the back leg. DKNY went with

the one with the return-more feminine. Standard 41 has

decided to include both in their line.

A whole spectrum of woods and colors available.

Standard 41 is just six generations and a few years old. It all started in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with Raible father and

sons working as furniture makers, cabinetmakers, instrument makers and, legend would have it, chicken thieves.

In a fit of independence, Andrew Raible, the sixth generation, explored advertising, graphic design and other respectable jobs

before going back to grad school (Pratt Institute) to study furniture and Industrial design. He was back to the inevitable wood

shop.

After several successful partnerships and collaborations (Refinery Furniture, 3 Square Design) Andrew started Standard 41

to create a line of furniture that tends towards reinterpretations of mid-century Scandinavian and American designs - with

a sculptural twist. His minimal furniture’s clarity and restraint often belie its practicality and usefulness. And over time, a

seemingly austere table, chair or credenza reveals a hidden sense of fun.

John Raible, the father and architect, was, to anyone that knew him, a sculptor. He taught his son to play more with angles, to

embrace the idea that a curve, a swirl, and a knot are not beyond or below the realm of a minimalist Raible.

Andrew is constantly thinking and rethinking minimalism and modernism, exploring ways to create pieces that are true to an

aesthetic he was raised on, but one that can breathe and can offer new life in today’s world.

Standard41 continues to grow in its partnerships with showrooms and manufacturers. It also remains true to what has

sustained the Raibles through the generations, the relationship with individual clients. With John joining past chicken thieves

in May of 2008, the generations are looking down more than ever. Andrew is integrating the combined experience of his

forefathers into a company that acknowledges the past and also embraces the future..

Taible is the next evolution of Standard 41; A collection of modern, minimal and slightly quirky tables as well as seating to

accompany them. We focus on the unique design and customization of our work. Our tables are designed to be lived with for

generations. We always will.

Furniture that doesn’t take itself too seriously is here in the Stripe dining table. Clean lines hold down a vibrant stripe in a white lacquer inlay, and your choice of walnut, cherry, or maple. A great twist for the adventurous-no need for tablecloths.
