1 NICENE CREED (The Apostles’ Creed is on page 73.) I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. A reading from the Acts of the ApostlesPhilip went down to the city of Samaria andproclaimed the Christ to them. With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was said byPhilip when they heard it and saw the signs hewas doing. For unclean spirits, crying out in a loudvoice, came out of many possessed people, andmany paralyzed or crippled people were cured. There was great joy in that city. Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard thatSamaria had accepted the word of God, they sentthem Peter and John, who went down and prayedfor them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; theyhad only been baptized in the name of the LordJesus. Then they laid hands on them and theyreceived the Holy Spirit.

FIRST READING Acts 1:1-11A reading from the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all thatJesus did and taught until the day he was taken up,after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit tothe apostles whom he had chosen. He presentedhimself alive to them by many proofs after he hadsuffered, appearing to them during forty days andspeaking about the kingdom of God. While meetingwith them, he enjoined them not to depart fromJerusalem, but to wait for “the promise of theFather about which you have heard me speak; forJohn baptized with water, but in a few days you willbe baptized with the Holy Spirit.”When they had gathered together they asked him,“Lord, are you at this time going to restore thekingdom to Israel?” He answered them, “It is not foryou to know the times or seasons that the Father hasestablished by his own authority. But you will receivepower when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, andyou will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughoutJudea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”When he had said this, as they were looking on, hewas lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as hewas going, suddenly two men dressed in whitegarments stood beside them. They said, “Men ofGalilee, why are you standing there looking at thesky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you intoheavenwill return in the same way as you have seenhim going into heaven.”

FIRST READING Gn 11:1-9

A reading from the Book of GenesisThe whole world spoke the same language, usingthe same words. While the people were migratingin the east, they came upon a valley in the land ofShinar and settled there. They said to oneanother, “Come, let us mold bricks and hardenthem with fire.” They used bricks for stone, andbitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a cityand a tower with its top in the sky, and so make aname for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scatteredall over the earth.” The Lord came down to see thecity and the tower that the people had built. Thenthe Lord said: “If now, while they are one people, allspeaking the same language, they have started todo this, nothing will later stop them from doingwhatever they presume to do. Let us then go downthere and confuse their language, so that one willnot understand what another says.” Thus the Lord scattered them from there all overthe earth, and they stopped building the city. Thatis why it was called Babel, because there the Lordconfused the speech of all the world. It was fromthat place he scattered them all over the earth.

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the RomansBrothers and sisters: We know that all creation isgroaning in labor pains even until now; and not onlythat, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits ofthe Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as wewait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees isnot hope. For who hopes for what one sees? But ifwe hope for what we do not see, we wait withendurance. In the same way, the Spirit too comes tothe aid of our weakness; for we do not know how topray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedeswith inexpressible groanings. And the one whosearches hearts knows what is the intention of theSpirit, because he intercedes for the holy onesaccording to God’s will.

At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they wereconfused because each one heard them speaking inhis own language. Jesus said to the Twelve: “Fear no one. Nothingis concealed that will not be revealed, nor secretthat will not be known. What I say to you in thedarkness, speak in the light; what you hearwhispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do notbe afraid of those who kill the body but cannotkill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who candestroy both soul and body in Gehenna. Are nottwo sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one ofthem falls to the ground without your Father’sknowledge. Even all the hairs of your headare counted. So do not be afraid; you are worthmore than many sparrows. Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that wewho were baptized into Christ Jesus werebaptized into his death? We were indeed buriedwith him through baptism into death, so that, justas Christ was raised from the dead by the glory ofthe Father, we too might live in newness of life. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe thatwe shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death nolonger has power over him. As to his death, hedied to sin once and for all; as to his life, he livesfor God. A Preface for Easter Season

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, at all times to acclaim you, O Lord, but (on this night/on this day/in this time) above all to laud you yet more gloriously, when Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. For he is the true Lambwho has taken away the sins of the world; by dying he has destroyed our death, and by rising, restored our life. Therefore, overcome with paschal joy, every land, every people exults in your praiseand even the heavenly Powers, with the angelic hosts, sing together the unending hymn of your glory, as they acclaim: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts...

EUCHARISTIC PRAYERThe following prefaces and eucharistic prayers do not limit the Priest’soptions: he may choose others as he sees fit. The eucharistic prayerincludes the preface and ends with the Great Amen. From beginning toend, the prayer is directed to God through Christ.

And with your spir-it.

It is right and just.

We lift them up to the Lord.

C Preface for Trinity SundayIt is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.For with your Only Begotten Son and the Holy Spirit you are one God, one Lord:not in the unity of a single person, but in a Trinity of one substance. For what you have revealed to us of your glorywe believe equally of your Sonand of the Holy Spirit,so that, in the confessing of the true and eternal Godhead, you might be adored in what is proper to each Person, their unity in substance, and their equality in majesty. For this is praised by Angels and Archangels, Cherubim, too, and Seraphim, who never cease to cry out each day,as with one voice they acclaim: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts...

B Preface for Pentecost SundayIt is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.For, bringing your Paschal Mystery to completion, you bestowed the Holy Spirit todayon those you made your adopted childrenby uniting them to your Only Begotten Son.This same Spirit, as the Church came to birth, opened to all peoples the knowledge of Godand brought together the many languages of the earth in profession of the one faith. Therefore, overcome with paschal joy, every land, every people exults in your praiseand even the heavenly Powers, with the angelic hosts, sing together the unending hymn of your glory, as they acclaim: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts...

D Preface I Of The Most Holy EucharistIt is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks,Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For he is the true and eternal Priest, who instituted the pattern of an everlasting sacrifice and was the first to offer himself as the saving Victim, commanding us to make this offering as his memorial. As we eat his flesh that was sacrificed for us,we are made strong, and, as we drink his Blood that was poured out for us, we are washed clean. And so, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominions, and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory,as without end we acclaim: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts...

The following preface is an integral part of this Eucharistic Prayer:It is truly right to give you thanks, truly just to give you glory, Father most holy, for you are the one God living and true, existing before all ages and abiding for all eternity, dwelling in unapproachable light;yet you, who alone are good, the source of life, have made all that is,so that you might fill your creatures with blessingsand bring joy to many of them by the glory of your light. And so, in your presence are countless hosts of Angels, who serve you day and nightand, gazing upon the glory of your face, glorify you without ceasing. With them we, too, confess your name in exultation, giving voice to every creature under heaven,as we acclaim: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

We give you praise, Father most holy, for you are great and you have fashioned all your worksin wisdom and in love. You formed man in your own imageand entrusted the whole world to his care,so that in serving you alone, the Creator,he might have dominion over all creatures. And when through disobedience he had lost your friendship, you did not abandon him to the domain of death. For you came in mercy to the aid of all,so that those who seek might find you.Time and again you offered them covenantsand through the prophetstaught them to look forward to salvation.

And you so loved the world, Father most holy, that in the fullness of timeyou sent your Only Begotten Son to be our Savior.Made incarnate by the Holy Spiritand born of the Virgin Mary,he shared our human naturein all things but sin.To the poor he proclaimed the good news of salvation,to prisoners, freedom, and to the sorrowful of heart, joy.To accomplish your plan,he gave himself up to death, and, rising from the dead,he destroyed death and restored life. And that we might live no longer for ourselvesbut for him who died and rose again for us,he sent the Holy Spirit from you, Father,as the first fruits for those who believe,so that, bringing to perfection his work in the world,he might sanctify creation to the full. Therefore, O Lord, we pray:may this same Holy Spiritgraciously sanctify these offerings, that they may becomethe Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christfor the celebration of this great mystery, which he himself left usas an eternal covenant. For when the hour had comefor him to be glorified by you, Father most holy, having loved his own who were in the world,he loved them to the end:and while they were at supper,he took bread, blessed and broke it,and gave it to his disciples, saying:Take this, all of you, and eat of it,for this is my Body, which will be given up for you.

For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.1. O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.

2. They have poured out their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury them.

We have become the reproach of our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.O Lord, how long? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?

For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us.

1. You, O Lord, abide forever, and your name through all generations. You will arise and have mercy on Zion, for it is time to pity her.

For her stones are dearto your servants, and her dust moves them to pity. From heaven the Lord looks downon the earth.

2. And the nations shall revereyour name, O Lord, and all the kingsof the earth your glory,

When the Lord has rebuilt Zion andappeared in his glory; When he has regarded the prayerof the destitute, and not despised their prayer.

From heaven the Lord looks downon the earth.

3. Let this be writtenfor the generation to come,

and let his future creaturespraise the Lord:

“The Lord looked downfrom his holy height, from heaven he beheld the earth,

To hear the groaning of the prisoners,to release those doomed to die.”

From heaven the Lord looks downon the earth.

The Church’s One Foundation1. The Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord; She is his new creation, His word her two-edged sword. He came and searched and sought her To be his virgin bride; With his own blood he bought her, And for her life he died.2. Elect from every nation, United here on earth,Her charter of salvation, One Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy Name she blesses, Partakes one holy bread,And to one hope she presses, With Christ her only Head.3. Mid toil and tribulation And tumult of her war,She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore;Till with that final vision Her longing eyes are blest,And that great Church arisen Shall be the Church at rest.

Christ Our Leader

1. Christ our leader, Christ our Light, he is Lord and Master,Christ who suffered, died, and rose: prophet, priest, and pastor.Children rise and sing for joy, elders tell the storyHow the Lord who died for us rose again in glory.2. At the river we are born; life is freely flowing. At his table we are strong; here our faith is growing.Holy men of humble heart, women ever valiant,Christians, when they come to die, enter heaven through him.3. When we pray with Christ our Lord, we know he is near us.When we trust in him alone, God will surely hear us.Though the woods are dark and deep, though the wind is chilling,Yet our faith will lead us on; God, our God, is living!4. Though the journey lies ahead, though our day is ending,Though the night is coming on, darkness is descending,We are faithful to the Lord, to the love we owe him,Till that final day of life, till we come to know him.

Battle Hymn of the Republic58

1. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible, swift sword; His truth is marching on.Refrain: Glory, glory, Alleluia! Glory, glory, Alleluia!

Glory, glory, Alleluia! His truth is marching on!2. I have seen him in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps; They have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps;I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. Refrain: Glory, glory, Alleluia! Glory, glory, Alleluia!

Glory, glory, Alleluia! His truth is marching on!3. In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea.And the vision of his glory still transfigures you and me.As he died to make us holy, now he lives to make us free! While God is marching on.
