TheNewNYBridgeproject–overseeinga$3.98billionbudgettoreplacethe3.1-mileTappanZeeBridgeacrosstheHudsonRiver–couldn’taffordtomakemistakeswhenmovingthewaterunderthebridge.StancorP-70-HHSeriespumpswerereliedupontomoveHudsonRiverwatersotheconcreteinthemainspantowerpylonscuredproperly.Wedgewirescreens,whicharedesignedwithspeciallyshaped,5mmopeningswereaddedtothepumps’ intakestopreventfish,eggs,andlarvaefrombeingdrawnintothepump.Thevalue-addedproductsimultaneously:1)rancoolingwater150feet intotheairataflowratetomaintainstructuralconcreteintegrityand 2)protectedriverlifebyensuringtheHudsonRiverwater temperatureneverrosebymorethan3degrees.
