Limitations in Octane Testing

There is a challenge to consistently and accurately test, monitor, and record data for Research and Motor Octane Number methods

Manually collecting, checking, recording:

Barometric pressure

Critical Operating Temperatures

Digital counts

Knock Intensities

Limits productivity, and any errors may result in losses of time and money

Many calculations are based on barometric pressure – where is your certified source?

In an effort to streamline the process, StanCo Scientific’s Octane Interface Panel was developed to improve lab productivity through accurate, semi-automated recording procedures

Bracketing – Equilibrium Fuel Level

Capture fuel KI values at different fuel

levels throughout the testing range to

determine where the peak KI exists

Plot and export data to an Excel file

Prepare multiple fuels to be saved

within the data set

Get a direct reading of the cylinder

height, automatically adjusted for

barometric correction

Generate reports and calculate

octane number

HRF, and Sample on two consecutive

first set of data and complete the

Knockmeter Linearity

Under testing conditions (controlled voltage

input using SSD7000), we found there are

sometimes linearity issues with the analog

meters

The SSD1000 units all performed linearly

and were more consistent than analog

counterparts

Reference Fuel Blending System (RFBS)

Designed for Blending Fuels as Specified by ASTM Methods D613, D2699, D2700

Reference Fuel Blending System (RFBS) is available in four or six Buretconfigurations

Burets are amber stained to reduce exposure to light. The vacuum pump is operated by a convenient foot petal so there are no electrical components involved.

RFBS can be installed as wall or bench mount conserving valuable lab space
