Historical BackgroundOn September 14th 1942 the Germans first attempt to take Stalingrad was under way. After the Germans seizedMamayev Kurgan heights they turned their attention toward the no. 1 Railroad station. Nearby the station there was theNKVD HQ and the Grain Silo. Behind the station there were land spots where where reinforcements would be landedfrom the other side of the Volga. The men tasked with defending this were men from the 62nd army. After the openingday of the battle with his army split in two General Vasily Chuikov sent a plea of help to the 13th Guards Divisioncommanded by Major-General Rodmitstev. The 13th division had to fight its way all the way from the landing spot tothe rail road station. The fighting around the station was extremely bloody, it changed hand 15 times before theGerman 71st division finally secured it on September 19th 1942. The Soviet 13th Guards Division started out with 10,000men but after the battle was over they only could manage to bring up 2,700 men in fighting form.The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
