Stakeholder engagement
Sainsbury’s continually engages with external stakeholders to inform the implementation of
its sustainability plan.
Following stakeholder engagement Sainsbury’s , in November 2011, published its 20 by 20
Sustainability Plan consisting of 20 environmental and social commitments to be achieved by
2020. The commitments cover both Sainsbury’ operations and the supply chain of our own
brand products.

The 20 by 20 Sustainability Plan drives Sainsbury’s engagement with external stakeholders
on this agenda. Through regular dialogue with various stakeholders – including government
bodies, academics, NGOs and charities and other businesses – Sainsbury’s is able to
implement its sustainability plan in a relevant, credible and effective manner. One example
includes Sainsbury’s engagement with the Green Monday events in the UK where various
stakeholders were able to give their feedback on our sustainability plans and progress to
date.
