Soul Comfort
Series: “The Life You’ve Always Wanted”
Message #2: Psalm 23:3-4
EBC July 15, 2018
Psalm 23 (ESV) – A PSALM OF
DAVID. 1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall
not want. 2He makes me lie down in green
pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. 3He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of
righteousness for His name’s
sake. 4Even though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil, for You are with
me;
Your rod and your staff, they
comfort me.
5You prepare a table before me in
the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; my
cup overflows. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of
the LORD forever.
1. There’ll be
confusing times
when you’re going
to need guidance
and direction.
Psalm 23:3b (CSB) – He leads
me in paths of righteousness for
His name’s sake.
Hebrews 6:1a – Therefore let us
leave the elementary teachings
about Christ and go on to
maturity.
1 Peter 2:2-3 - Like newborn
babies, crave pure spiritual milk,
so that by it you may grow up in
your salvation, 3 now that you
have tasted that the Lord is
good.
2. There’ll be scary
times when you’re
going to need
courage.
Psalm 23: 4a – Even though I
walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no
evil, for You are with me.
3. There’ll be times
when you’re going
to need to be
reminded whose
you are.
Psalm 23:4b – Your rod and your
staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 119:11 - Thy Word have I
hid in my heart, that I might not
sin against thee!
2 Timothy 3:16 - All Scripture is
God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness.
Hebrews 4:12-13 - For the word
of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged
sword, it penetrates even to
dividing soul and spirit, joints
and marrow; it judges the
thoughts and attitudes of the
heart.
13 Nothing in all creation is
hidden from God’s sight.
Everything is uncovered and laid
bare before the eyes of him to
whom we must give account.
4. There’ll be times
when you’re going
to need to have your
soul restored.
Psalm 23: 3a (CSB) – He restores
my soul.
Psalm 42:11 (ESV) - Why are you
cast down, O my soul?
Proverbs 6:32 (NKJV) - Whoever
commits adultery with a woman
lacks understanding; He who
does so destroys his own soul.
1 Peter 2:11 (CSB) - Dear friends,
I urge you as strangers and
exiles to abstain from sinful
desires that wage war against
the soul.
Jeremiah 2:13 - “My people have
committed two sins: They have
forsaken me, the spring of living
water, and have dug their own
cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot
hold water.”
