What is House-Keeping

Housekeeping in simple words means

maintaining a workplace on a daily or longterm basis or looking after its cleanliness,tidiness, upkeep and smooth running.

Raw Material Loading Old Raw material must be processed first, loading of

fresh Raw material before old Raw material leads toincreased FFA in Raw material.

Raw material must be weight each time before loading,this unable to calculate capacity utilisation, etc.

Offals must be washed before loading, this is reducewater quantity & FFA.

Raw material collected from floor must always beprocessed through RM Bin. Any inclusion of metal in Rawmaterial may lead to unexpected breakdown.

Routine Maintenance

Grinder Holder Knife replacement. Reactor Bearing Greasing.

Shear pin check (Bush & Coupling).

Loader Arm Oiling.

Metal Detectors Belt Bearing Greasing.

Decanter Greasing.

Dryer Burner Filter Cleaning.

Hammer Mill Magnet surface Cleaning. pH Probe Cleaning & Calibration (pH= 4.5).

Metal Detector Sensitivity Check.

Geared Motor & Gear units:

Gear units require only a minimum of maintenance whichis confined to regular checking of Oil levels.

Greased packed bearing should be cleaned and re-greased every 10000 working hours, care being that only1/3 of free volume of bearing is filled with grease in orderto avoid overheating of bearing.

Particular attention should be paid to motor by removing

all deposits from between the motor cooling fins and alsofrom the air intake on fan guard.

Pre-Breaker & Chain loader

Never clean the Rotor before the power to motor has beenswitched off and insulated.

The rotor is cleaned with high pressure cleaner. If it is not

possible to clean the rotor without rotor rotating, make sure

that no one get hurt.

Direct flushing with high pressure water, etc on lifting chains,

side tubes should be avoided.

The chain and central slide tube should be cleaned regularly of

old grease and dirt followed by a new greasing. That is of

special importance in bottom of loader at chain wheels where

greasing substance etc tend to accumulate.

Decanter

CIP of Decanter is carried in 2 steps:

High Speed CIP at full bowl speedfollowed by

Low Speed CIP at speed corresponding to50- 150 rpm

Decanter: High Speed CIP

CIP flow to feed tube of Decanter shouldbe 7000 l/hr at 3 bar.

In most cases, Water alone cannotremove the dirt and deposits.

Chemicals such as sodium hydroxide(Caustic soda) 1-1.5% to ensure pH valueof 12 -13.

Nitric acid (HNO) with concentration 0.5%can be used as supplement to causticcleaning.

Decanter: Low Speed CIP

CIP flow to feed tube of Decanter shouldbe 2000 l/hr.

Bowl rotating direction can be reversed atcertain intervals to achieve washing

machine effect. This results in mechanical cleaning effect

on bowl & conveyor.

CIP liquid recovered is polluted withsludge and need to be rinsed before it isre-used.

Decanter: SS Vessel Cover

All the locking nuts must be properlytighten.

Gear box shielding cover must be properly

bolted.

Cleaning of SS Vessel cover & Decanter

frame must be done on daily basis.

Separator: Frame/ Motor

Never wash down a separator with a direct water stream.Totally enclosed motors can be damaged by direct hosing to

same extent as open motors.

Water directed on hot motor may cause condensation and

subsequently produce grounding and internal corrosion.

The external cleaning of machine should be restricted to

brushing sponging or wiping while the motor is running or is

still hot.

Screw Conveyors Safety circuit of Screw conveyor must be checked at regular

interval.After 100 hours operation (weekly):

Trough & screw flights must be checked for abnormal wear.

Geared motor alignment must be checked.

On chain transmission the chain alignment & tightening mustbe checked.

Coupling & bearing must be checked for wear.

When operated & maintained correctly , screw conveyor is

dust tight.

Hammer Mill Stone trap at bottom of Grinding chamber must be cleaned

for any foreign matters.

Grinding chamber must be cleaned with brush or a scraper.

H. Mill screen must be cleaned with brush.

The use of Hammers which are not dimensionally stable may

cause great imbalance in rotor upon exchange of hammers.

The number of hammers in each row must be same.

Bucket Elevator Elevator belt must be checked for wear at least once a year.

Elevator head wear plate must be checked once in a year.

Elevator belt must be tighten at least twice a year.

Speed guard stop function must be checked by releasing

bottom belt pulley & lifting it. (Guard must disconnect the

main motor)

Reverse brake must be checked, Brake is designed to prevent

reverse operation.
