Captain and Prefect Nominees 2013 Congratulations Darcie E, Kelsey M, Megan J, Luka R, Morgan S, Eliza G, Nicola S and Meirah P for girl nominations, and Jacob W, Lachlan O, Dale R, Alex E, Lleyton R, Marcus S and Noah T for the boys. These students presented their speeches at the K-6 Assembly yesterday. Students and staff were very impressed with the high standard and impressive presentation. Voting then took place in the Library and the outcome will be announced at the Presentation Assembly on December 14th. Good luck to all our candidates.

4H Mask Makers Students in 4H and their teacher have been getting carried away with their paper mache skills and created the most wonderful array of masks. They have patiently applied layer after layer of paper and glue, then formed features and painted their masks to a high standard. They look amazing!! Well done Mr Harrison and 4H.

Lost Property Please, please come and check the Lost Property tubs if you or your child are missing any school related items. Lunch boxes, lunch bags, drink bottles, plastic containers, hats, jumpers, socks – you name it we seem to have it. The tubs are located near the lift in the canteen COLA and near the staffroom door. All unclaimed items will be washed and donated to the clothing pool. Labelling all items is a great way to help us get things back to the rightful owners.

Cultural Visit Roderick Slockee, Aboriginal Liaison Officer for the Batemans Bay district visited with our Stage 2 students yesterday and gave a very entertaining presentation to students on traditional weapons, music and art. Students enjoyed his didgeridoo playing and the explanation of indigenous hunting methods.

Recount: On Monday the 26th of November, 4G, 4H, 3/4A and some other classes went down to the hall to listen to Roderick. He was an Aboriginal man and taught us many things about the Aboriginal culture. To start he talked about the didgeridoo. I really liked how he named many of the Aboriginal groups and told us how they say didgeridoo. He was very funny and had a good voice to attract the audience. Roderick told us some punishments for being a thief or forgetting very important things. If you forgot a ‘Mogo’ from another camp a person would throw a spear into your leg as they were very important and valuable. You would never ever forget the ‘Mogo’ again. It was very interesting and I hope to listen to some more of his stories. Always respect your elders. This land was, is and always will be traditional Aboriginal land. Angus R 4G Recount: Last Monday Rod came in to show years three and four some Aboriginal tools and talk about his culture. Firstly he showed us the didgeridoo. He told us some names for the didgeridoo. The name I like was gingi. He then showed us his spear. It was made from the black boy flower. He told us about the uses of the plant. Later Rod showed us the bulla. That’s the object that launches the spear with more speed and aim. He then showed us the boomerangs and talked about their uses including how Aboriginals use the boomerang for hunting magpies. Rod showed us the clap sticks next. He told us that clap sticks are for girls and boys aren’t allowed to use them. Sadly it was home time. Let’s hope Rod comes back and tells us the scary story he promised. Declan D 4G
