Our staff, together with over 300 volunteers, work to advance the lives of over 1,200 women a year in Indianapolis who are looking to make better lives for themselves and their families.

Greetings from Dress for Success Indianapolis! As another decade

comes to a close, we celebrate the transformative experiences of more than 6,800 women who have walked through our doors in the past 11 years. Their stories are different, but they share one thing in common … the desire to thrive in work and in life and determination to create better lives for themselves and their families.

Once again, our Suits for Success Program served more women than any other year since our inception. Ninety-four partner agencies referred a total of 1,158 women to us for interview-suiting appointments.

Our Professional Women’s Group (PWG) also experienced growth and program expansion. Twenty PWG meetings were held throughout the year, in addition to 12 social/cultural events. Ninety-seven women attended at least one PWG meeting, 59 were considered active and 12 graduated into the Lifelong PWG program. A Dare to Dream workshop was added to help clients develop a fi ve year vi-sion as well as a biweekly accountabil-ity group entitled Mastermind.

In 2010, our Career Development Center team anticipated providing 1,000 hours of career development assistance to clients. By year end, the team exceeded that goal by provid-ing over 3,000 hours of service to 668 clients!

Dress for Success Indianapolis was built on the shoulders of volunteers, and we could not have come this far without their dedication, passion and time. In 2010, nearly 370 volunteers

provided more than 5,800 hours of service to help forward the mis-sion of Dress for Success Indianapolis. We are incred-ibly grateful for their gifts of time and expertise.

The women we have the privilege to serve face challenges that extend far beyond fi nding a job. Most face barriers that require long-term sup-port, perseverance and essential career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life. We believe a self-suffi cient woman is an asset to herself, her family, our community and the world! Every day, we witness transformations in the women we serve through our Suits for Success, Professional Women’s Group and Ca-reer Development Center programs.

To promote the economic independence of disad-vantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Who We Serve

Our client is a woman who has fallen on hard times and has been affected by generational or situational poverty. She is unemployed or underemployed and she connects with our program through one of our partner agencies. Through Dress for Success India-napolis and its programs, she stabilizes her per-sonal life and receives appropriate preparation for the workforce. After receiving a job, she can return to Dress for Success Indianapolis to receive further support and development to attain self-suffi ciency.

What We Believe

We believe that a self-suffi cient woman is an asset to herself, her family, our community and the world.

Professional Women’s Group members gather for the annual graduation ceremony at The Propylaeum Club to celebrate those who have participated in PWG for the past year.

Suits for Success:The Suits for Success program pro-vides women with a one-on-one suiting appointment where they are able to select a complete outfi t (suit, blouse, hosiery, shoes, purse and jewelry) for their interview, as well as workforce apparel once employ-ment is obtained. All of the women who participate in the Suits for Suc-cess program are referred to Dress for Success Indianapolis through our partner referral agencies. The Suits for Success program served 1,158 women for interview suits in 2010 and 1,757 for work attire.

Suits for Success clients are reaching signifi cant employment and indepen-dance milestones. We know the path ahead is still long, so we launched the Professional Women’s Group and the Career Development Center to assist them along the way.

Professional Women’s Group: PWG promotes employment retention and career advancement by provid-ing skill-building information and networking opportunities in a safe, supportive environment. Members are Suits for Success clients who are now employed. PWG currently boasts more than 50 members and nearly 100 women participating in 2010.

PWG members expand their knowl-edge through a myriad of extra programming. All of the events and programs are built around the four main topics: the written and unwrit-ten rules of the work place, fi nancial literacy and work/life balance.

Three programs exist with the primary goal of supporting the Dress for Suc-cess Indianapolis mission. Dress for Success Indianapolis has served 6,836 women since 2000.

The Layers of Success, Our Programs

Career Development Center:Our Career Development Center, which opened in May 2009, includes a computer lab, individualized career support, resume assistance, mock interviews and skill-building workshops. In 2010, we provided 3,310 hours of career development assis-tance to our clients.

The Career Development Center played an integral role in supporting our mission by providing the job readiness skills, support and assistance needed for women in our community to be successful at reaching their goal of ob-taining and maintaining employment.

In 2010, Dress for Success Indianapolis sought to fi ll a void in our services, by offering pre-employment training. Dress for Success Indianapolis teamed up with Training, Inc. to develop Smart Starts. This one-week training pro-gram focused on basic computer skills, as well as soft skills such as how to address confl ict in the workplace. The program helped the participants evaluate job opportunities and fi nd the career they want and need. Nearly 70 women participated in this program, and over half of them are now em-ployed!

From the beginning, Dress for Success Indianapolis has succeeded due to the commitment and passion of our vol-unteers. In 2010, we benefi tted from the efforts of over 300 volunteers and over 5,000 hours of volunteer time. We literally couldn’t provide our valuable services without their help. As we con-tinue to expanded, our needs grow as well. There are many ways for you to share your time and talents! On behalf of the women we serve each day, and our organization - THANK YOU!
