Stack the Deck or Crazy Quilts Mini Workshop January 6, 2016 Ann Oastler
Reference Stack The Deck Crazy Quilts in 4 Easy Steps by Karla Alexander
Stack a New Deck Martingale and Co. That Patchwork Place
1. Stack squares of assorted fabric. ( You need at least as many pieces as you plan to have
cuts) These can be a random order or dark then light or plain then patterned depending
on how you plan to shuffle the pieces. If you use more fabrics than you have block
segments, not all fabrics will appear in each block. Using velvets or laces makes an
interesting quilt that can be embellished.
2. Pin the stack firmly together especially if you have a large stack.
3. Cut into pieces .
4. Shuffle the pieces depending on the pattern.
5. Sew the pieces together in each layer in the reverse order to the cutting.
( Make at least one complete square first and number the sections if you are planning on
chain piecing them . This helps if the pieces get mixed up.
6. Press and square to the size of the smallest block.
7. Blocks can be sewn together as is or pieced with sashings or put on point adding plain
outside triangles.
8. Sandwich , quilt using all over free motion quilting or decorative threads and stitches.
