Fr. Del’s Point to Ponder Throughout the Archdiocese of Cincinnati we are beginning to look realistically at how life throughout our nineteen counties can be carried out most effectively. Covid-19 aside, it has become obvious that as our society has changed and so has the church. It has also become quite evident that, more than ever, we need the church to be vital and influential in our world. In fact, we all need to be aware of the church’s mission as it continues to find its place in “leading all souls to Christ.” As we begin our archdiocesan planning it is important that we remember that what we are about, primarily, is conversion. We also have to be honest about some things that have changed since we were kids. Ordained leaders – pastors and priests – have changed dramatically in recent decades. Consider these facts:• In 1970 the Archdiocese of Cincinnati had 259 Parishes, 167 Schools, and 834
Priests.• In 2019 the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has 212 Parishes, 108 Schools, and 149
Priests. • Spring, 2020: Anticipate ordination of 3 new priests; 8 retirements/medical leaves
by July 1, 2020.• Currently, 102 diocesan priest pastors (not including religious order priests). • Half of active diocesan priests serving as pastors are age 65 or older. • 19 active diocesan priests are serving as pastors beyond the age of 70.• 10% of the active diocesan priests have been ordained in the last 3 years.• 123 priests are pastors of parishes or regions in the Archdiocese (diocesan and
religious orders).• Presently, parochial vicars are becoming pastors after one assignment of 2 or 3
years, which does not give them the needed experience to be a pastor in most cases.
• It is estimated that 4 current parochial vicars may be ready to be assigned as pastors in 2020.
• There will be approximately 52 additional diocesan retirements by 2025.• We anticipate pastors for approx. 65 pastoral regions (less than the 100 regions
previously envisioned).• Of the current parochial vicars, half are not expected to become pastors because
they are senior associates or foreign-born extern priests on temporary loan from their dioceses.
I want you to be aware of these numbers, not to instill fear and a sense of doom. Quite the opposite, I think we need to be aware that this is an opportunity for us to call forth one another to take more and more responsibility for the life of our parishes. This will leave the priest to carry out what he was ordained to do: sacraments, pastoral care and parish oversight. Obviously, there is much more to come in the months ahead about this process, which
we will focus on together.

THE CHRISTMAS GIVING TREEChristmas is coming soon, and it’s time to consider helping those in need. Things have to be done a little differently this year due to Covid-19. We are planning on putting up a physical tree in the narthex that will be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and before and after weekday and weekend Masses. The tree will be put up earlier than usual – on Saturday, November 7 – so there will be time to order gifts online. Additionally, this year, there will be some gift-giving opportunities available through email via Sign-up Genius; mostly gift cards for our own St. Vincent de Paul and Inter Parish Ministries.
Please wrap and return individual gifts (they will have an individual’s name on them) with the tag taped to the outside of the package so the right gifts go to the right organizations/individuals. Some items don’t need to be wrapped – this information will be on the tag if this is the case. Gift cards and monetary donations can be given to an usher or placed in the designated gift bag on the tree.
ALL GIFTS MUST BE RETURNED BY DECEMBER 5-6; they can be dropped off at the parish office during the day (Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). The gifts will be picked up by the various agencies beginning Monday, December 7, so please drop them off as soon as you can before that date. The charities we are supporting are:
House of Peace – a YMCA shelter for women and childrenA Caring Place – a pregnancy help centerInter Parish MinistriesSouthwest Ohio Developmental Center – residential home for adults with special needsAdams County parishes – Holy Trinity and Mary Queen of Peace, and their St. Vincent de PaulWestwood Elementary – students in real needFamilies in the Power Pack Program supported by our Outreach CommissionSt. Vincent de Paul at St. Veronica
Thank you for considering helping others in need!
For more information, please contact Beth Smith at 513-328-3039
FAITH DIRECT We are thankful for all the generous gifts that you provide to our parish, but we realize that you cannot be with us every Sunday of the year. Please consider using our secure electronic giving program, Faith Direct. Faith Direct will automatically process any offertory or second collections donation of your choosing. You can enroll online: Visit faith.direct/OH221.
Thank you for your continued support of our parish.

SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is scheduled on Sundays either at Mass or at 12:30 p.m. Expectant parents should plan on attending the Baptismal Preparation Program, held six times a year. Call the Parish Office to schedule the Baptism and preparation program. The Sacrament of Baptism for adults and school-age children is usually celebrated at the Easter Vigil, along with the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Preparation occurs in steps and stages throughout the year with weekly meetings on Sunday after 9:30 a.m. Mass. Call Emily Besl at 688-3143 or the Parish Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING The Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation or Confession) is celebrated each Saturday, 2:30-3:30 p.m., or by appointment with the pastor. Seasonal Penance Services are also celebrated. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick may be scheduled by calling the pastor before a medical procedure, or in the event of a serious illness. When hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office; this is the only way we know if a parishioner has been hospitalized. In case of medical emergency or death, call the parish office and follow prompts.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT The Sacrament of Marriage is scheduled by calling the pastor or deacon to begin the process of marriage preparation, at least six months prior to the anticipated wedding date. A date for the wedding is set only after meeting with the pastor or deacon. Discernment for the Sacrament of Orders (ordination to the Priesthood and Diaconate) is facilitated by contacting the pastor or Vocation Director of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Those interested in pursuing Religious Life may also make these contacts.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM The Religious Education Program (R.E.P.) for children (ages 3 years through 8th Grade) begins each year in September and ends in May. Call Barb Farwick, Administrative Assistant, at 688-3155 for more information.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DONATIONS
The St. Veronica Outreach Commission has been busy this spring and summer providing opportunities for our parishioners to give back and serve our neighbors in need. The parish donated 100 packs of paper, 150 crayons, 100 glue stick packs, 200 pencils, 180 backpacks and many more items to our school supply drive. Outreach delivered the school supplies to Child Focus and Cincy Kids 4 Kids for distribution. Children in our neighborhood were able to have a great start to their school year because of your generosity.
If you have project ideas or would like to be involved in the Outreach Commission, please visit our Facebook page “St. Veronica Outreach Commission.” Or you can email the co-chairs:
