  • THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD JANUARY 3, 2021

    Monday, January 4 8:30 a.m. Margie Lazzeo - Health & Blessings Karl Eberle & Girls Tuesday, January 5 8:30 a.m. Mary Kolat ~ Margie Stevens Wednesday, January 6 8:30 a.m. John Zanni ~ Family Thursday, January 7 8:30 a.m. Shelley Town ~ Kathy & Zig Lugiewicz Saturday, January 9 4:30 p.m. Marsha Kind ~ Relay Team Sunday, January 10 10:00 a.m. Pat Matta ~ Family

Today is Feast of the Epiphany. This story is unique to the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew who was a Jewish man but was considered a sinner because he had abandoned his faith to collect taxes for the Roman Empire. Because he was considered a sinner he was cast out of society, considered an ‘outsider’. His Gospel addresses those of the Jewish faith, but his message about Jesus was that Jesus came as the Messiah and accepted everyone for salvation. Thus, the story of the Magi, is about ‘outsiders’ who came to see the new born King, thus being included in the salvation story. The word ‘Epiphany’ means an awareness that was not previously known. The Magi came to have an ‘epiphany’ to mani-fest the new born savior; they then went out to the world to tell the good news of the Messiah. We too have the same responsibilities… to make known who Jesus is and go out into the world and to bring his message to all.

Please pray for the following parishioners

    and their families.

Clara Babos Nick Yannucci Pat Herdman

    Jackie Henderson

    May they rest in peace.

We have an exciting event about to occur in our Diocese.

Our new Bishop-elect David J. Bonnar will be elevated to the Order of Bishop on Tuesday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. Columba. In this time of great joy, it is al-so a time of reservation. Due to the limita-tions imposed by the current pandemic, the number of reservations has been severely restricted. Due to anticipated attendants from the Diocese of Pittsburgh, the Bishop-elect’s family members, and visiting dignitar-ies from around the city, state, and country, the ceremony will not be open to the general public. However, you will be able to watch it live on our Diocesan website at doy.org/media/cathedral beginning at 2:00 p.m. A rebroadcast on ETC-Ecumenical Television Channel is scheduled for Thursday, January 14 at 12:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, January 16 at 12:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 8:00 p.m. May God bless our new Bishop and our Diocese.

Dear Jesus, though a newborn, the wise men knew your greatness. On a hint from the heavens, they traveled far from their places of comfort so that they could honor you. From their belief in your divinity, they gave amazing gifts, offerings that symbolized your life, power, and even your death. And because of a dream in the night, they altered their well-laid plans to return home in order to protect you. May we be so willing to honor, sacrifice, and obey, all for love of you, as we meditate on the meaning of this day. Amen.

Please pray for our RCIA Candidates and Catechumens. Susan Davis, Dawn DiVieste, Mauro DiVieste, Zach Miller,

    Renee White and Kylee Shaffer.
