Reflec on
Today we celebrate the day when Christ was raised in glory returning to His Father in heaven. The readings emphasize what the disciples and we are asked to do. Jesus tells us to be witnesses to the ends of the earth. Paul talks about building up the body of Christ. Mark writes that we are to proclaim the Gospel to the whole world. How well do I proclaim the Gospel? We live our faith in our daily lives in the choices we make every day. Although Christ ascended into heaven, He is with us as we strive to do our part in proclaiming the Gospel by our lives. On this feast of the Ascension, may
we celebrate our call to con nue the work of the apostles. “Don’t just stand around wai ng!” How o en do I stand around when there is work to be done, when there is injus ce occurring, or when there is someone in need?
MAY 13 - HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY!
Mothers’ Day was first observed a er the turn of the 20th century as a memorial service for those who had lost their mothers. The observance spread to all churches by 1914, and became a day to show
apprecia on for mothers both living and dead.
Today we honor mothers and all women of faith who inspire in us the confidence we need from day to day. On this special day share your love with all the wonderful mothers, single fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles and all who care for us and love us. “The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.” We offer our prayers and a Happy Mothers’ Day to all who care for us.
Gratefully, The Staff at St. Monica and St. Thomas
