Lenten Fast and Abstinence Catholics, who are 14 years or older and in good health, are
obliged to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday,
and all the Fridays of Lent. Catholics, who are in good health
from ages 18 through 50, are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday
and Good Friday. Fasting for this discipline means only one full
meal a day, with two lighter meals, but with no food between
meals. Catholics are encouraged to express their interior penance
in other ways also: prayer, exercises of devotion, abstinence from
certain foods or activities, with an offering to charity of the
money that would have otherwise been spent for that food, drink,
or recreation.
Wednesday Evening Scripture Study The Wednesday night scripture group will begin a new study on the Book of Isaiah, which is challenging but rich in prophecy and theology. The book is considered one of the great religious literary works and consists of both prose and poetry. Except for the psalms, no Hebrew book is quoted more in the New Testament than the Book of Isaiah. St. Paul quoted from the book 27 times in his letters. Passages from Isaiah are read frequently at Mass in the Sunday and daily lectionaries. The study is on Wednesday’s at 6:30 PM in the St. Joseph's room. If you think you would be interested in the study, please call Bill or Debbie at 664-2066 so we will have a general idea of how many books to order. All are welcome to join us.
