Dear friends,
After over 15 years of use and due to the changes in the Order of Mass, St. Thomas Becket must replace our current hymnals. We are in need of 400 hymnals for our parish and hope to raise the money to help cover some of the costs.
Each hymnal is valued at approximately $20; however, we are only requesting a $10 donation and you can donate for as many hymnals as you like. You can dedicate each donation to the memory
of a loved one or in honor of your family or friends. Stickers with details from each donation will be placed inside the hymnals.
Your generosity and commitment to our Music Program at St. Thomas Becket is vital to our success, and anything you can give toward the purchase of our new hymnals will be greatly appreciated. Please send you donations by March 1st via the mail, collection basket, or drop them off at the parish office.

Po ponad 15 latach użytkowania, i ze względu na zmiany w słownictwie Mszy Św. w jęz. angielskim, parafia Św. Tomasza Becketa musi zakupić nowe śpiewniki. Potrzebujemy 400 śpiewników i mamy nadzieję, że państwa donacje pomogą nam w pokryciu ich kosztu.
Każdy śpiewnik kosztuje około $20; jednak zainteresowanych prosimy o tylko $10 donację—oczywiście można złożyć ofiary na więcej niż jeden śpiewnik. Ofiary można poświęcić ku czci pamięci ukochanej zmarłej osoby lub na cześć swojej rodziny lub przyjaciół. Bardzo prosimy aby donacje były dostarczone do biura parafialnego do 1-go marca.

BIBLE STUDY Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 24, when
Krystyna Maciorowski and Tony Jannotta will begin a four week Bible series on the book of Matthew, which is the Gospel that is read during the 2017 church year. Morning sessions, led by Krystyna, will begin on January 24, at 9: 45am and conclude on Tuesday,
February 14, 2017. Evening sessions, led by Deacon Tony, will start on January 31, at 7:pm. and conclude on February 21, 2017.
Both, the morning and evening sessions will be of the same content, both will be in English, though Polish parishioners are welcome.
Krystyna will cover the background and history of Matthew’s Gospel, which will make it easier to appreciate and understand the gospel
each Sunday. The study will continue on Tuesdays for four weeks and could continue after Lent with a more in depth study of Matthew
using Jeff Cavin’s video series. Make a resolution to grow your faith in 2017 by attending the series. Friends and neighbors are welcome!
MINISTERS OF CARE
All Ministers of Care are invited to attend a meeting on Wednesday,
February 1, 2017 at 9:30am in the hall.
Ministers of Care bring Communion to the sick, homebound and hospitalized. If you would like to join this ministry,
training is mandatory.
Winter 2017 training will be on February 2, 9, 16, 23 and March 2 at Presence St. Benedict Nursing
and Rehab Center in Niles. Registration is required.

cate with you. Through our arrangement with the Liturgical Publications Inc, the church does not pay for the bulletin
printing, which saves us thousands of dollars every year. Our bulletin is supported through the generosity of the advertis-
ers—many of whom are our own church parishioners or members of our local community. Please support our adver-tisers with your patronage. Tell the business owner that you
appreciate their support of our church through their advertis-ing in the bulletin. We print 750 bulletins every week and on
Christmas and Easter 1250. This is a quick, practical, and business savvy way to reach many people. A strong and
vibrant bulletin is good for our community and a strong business community is good for our church.

Question: January 25 is the feast of the
Conversion of St. Paul and the end of the Week of Prayer for
Christian Unity. What does one have to do with the other?
Answer:
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity consists of eight days begin-ning January 18 (the previous date
for the feast of the Chair of St. Peter) and ending on January 25,
the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. The celebration was
begun by Paul James Wattson, a former Episcopalian priest who eventually became a Catholic
priest. Suggestions for prayer and education for the week are
distributed each year at geii.org, emphasizing a jointly chosen
theme. The 1964 Vatican II docu-ment on ecumenism, "Unitatis
Redintegratio," gave a great boost to the octave, so that today many
Christians worldwide promote and participate in the octave time of prayer. The emphasis on both Peter and Paul aptly fits into the rationale of the octave. Peter is
seen as the source of unity within the Christian tradition; Paul is highlighted due to his vision of
bringing all to Christ. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an
ideal opportunity to pray for and promote respect, understanding,
and, hopefully, eventual unity among Christians.
