Do not be afraid.- the words that Jesus says to the disciples as he walks on the water. To believe in God is to reach out to others. There are times when we perceive other peoples discouragement yet we shrug our shoulders. We hear of other peoples frustration yet we are reluctant to make their frustration our own. In the Gospel, Peter experiences discouragement, doubt and frustration. He demonstrates little faith yet Jesus stretches out his hand to save him. Peters renewed faith is not for him alone. In the Gospel of Matthew, Peter serves as the rock of the community, the church, thus affording solidity and strength to those who experience discourage- ment, doubt and frustration. Peter has learned that to believe in God is to reach out to others. An example of this is a teacher who opts to use compassion and understanding to his/her students and not merely teaching academics proclaim the power of faith. The Eucharist challenges the faith of the community in terms of the needs of the community. The Eucharist teaches that to believe in God is, indeed, to reach out to others.

East Texas Catholic Foundation The mission of the East Texas Catholic Foundation is to help donors make a lasting impact on the spiritual, educational, and charitable works of the Diocese of Tyler to serve the future of the Catholic Church in East Texas through the grace of stewardship. As the Church in East Texas grows, society changes, tax regulations become increasingly complex, and as the needs of the Diocese evolve, the East Texas Catholic Foundation is here to make supporting the work of the Church easy, secure, and lasting. How can we be certain our charitable wishes are being honored? How can we be sure we’ve considered the various tax advantages of giving? How do we know our giving is invested wisely? The East Texas Catholic Foundation brings legal and financial expertise, accountability, sustainability, and a Catholic perspective to ensuring your gift makes the most impact for generations to come. Go to www.dioceseoftyler.org for more info.
