If we are looking for a way to follow Jesus and to be like him, this weekends reading give us guild. Zephaniah tells us to seek the Lord, to seek Justice and seek Humility. Zephaniah puts an emphasis on being humble and lowly. St Paul in his letter tells us that God has chosen the foolish, the weak, the lowly and those who count for nothing. “Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord.” How we grow both physically and spiritually is spelt out in our reading from the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes teach us how to live. Jesus taught them to his disciples. Let us reflect on the Beatitudes and think about what they ask of us. Merciful is a good description of how we are to live together as followers of Jesus Christ. Let us not forget that this is what Jesus expects of us as sons and daughters of God the father.

Collection for the Church in Latin America to be held January 28-29 The annual Collection for the Church in Latin America will be taken up in in the Diocese of Tyler the weekend of January 28-29. This collection has existed for over 50 years as a sign of solidarity between the Churches of the United States and those in Latin America and the Caribbean. The collection supports the work of the USCCB Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America by
funding grants for a variety of pastoral efforts such as lay leadership training, seminarian and religious formation, prison ministry and youth ministry. All of these efforts help Catholics share their faith

That all Christians may be faithful to the Lord’s teaching by striving with prayer and fraternal charity to restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the challenges facing humanity.
