SUNDAY READINGS
ADVENT 2020
For Catholics, the new
Liturgical Year commences
with the first Sunday of
Advent. In this new liturgical
year, the Church not only
wishes to indicate the
beginning of a period, but the
beginning of a renewed
commitment to the faith by all those who follow Christ, the Lord.
This time of prayer and path of penance that is so powerful, rich
and intense, endeavours to give us a renewed impetus to truly
welcome the message of the One who was incarnated for us. In
fact, the entire Liturgy of the Advent season, will spur us to an
awakening in our Christian life and will put us in a ‘vigilant’
disposition, to wait for Our Lord Jesus who is coming: ‘Awaken! Remember that God comes! Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but today, now! The one true God, "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob", is not a God who is there in Heaven, unconcerned with us and our history, but he is the-God-who-comes.’
1
The Season of Advent is therefore a season of vigilant waiting, that
prepares us to welcome the mystery of the Word Incarnate. https://

Prayer for Hope Loving Father,
we begin this season of Advent in great anticipation
of the Coming of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
We have experienced the suffering of all
Your creation. We have seen the pain,
the violence, the sorrow and the grief
that is in our world. Fill us with the hope that is in Your
Son. Grant us the strength to persevere
in following Him; in loving You and loving our neighbour

Parish Christmas Celebration 2020
St Sebastian’s parish community wishes to celebrate all things surviving Covid-19, in what
has been a trying and difficult year.
We are hosting a gathering on Thursday, December 10 from 5.30pm and invite all parishioners to come along and share some good cheer, good stories, and festive greetings with one another….we have so much to celebrate and to be thankful for.
We will hold this event in Majellan House, or weather permitting, on the side lawn (COVID safe practices in place) and ask that you bring a small plate of food to share, and any beverage you may want, other than tea, coffee and milk, soft drink which will
be provided.
We so look forward to our community members attending, particularly our many “volunteers who give so much to so many.”
We also hope to encourage all families particularly from the Sacramental programs, Baptismal programs and other Parish
initiatives of 2020.
Please email Parish office or Margaret Smith, Hospitality Coordinator on [email protected] if you want to be
included in the attendance list.
St Fabian’s VINNIES 2020 Christmas Sponsorship Appeal
Our Conference is commencing its Christmas Appeal at Masses this weekend. Requests for hampers of food have been replaced by a request for gifts cards this year on account of our needing to plan ahead to put in place ways to minimize handling and personal contact in collecting and delivering Christmas sponsorships of households through St Fabian’s Vinnies. A wishing tree will be outside the church at each weekend Mass 5:30 pm Saturday 28/11 to 5:00 pm Sunday 13/12 and Parishioners can sponsor an individual or a family by taking an envelope of their choice off the tree and recording their name and envelope ID number on the list. You return your envelope with a Coles Myer Target gift card in an envelope along with your words of Christmas greeting, please. In previous years, our parishioners have been able to involve their extended families in the sponsorship of their chosen household. That certainly increases participation and gift size to the sponsored household if you can try it again for 2020. Please hand your Christmas greeting card and Coles/Myer etc gift card to the Vinnies representative at Mass the following weekend. The latest time for handing your gift card & envelope to a Vinnies representative is at the 9 am Mass Tuesday 15 December Thank you and God bless from Andrew Loch, President St Fabian’s Conference of Vinnies
