PASTOR’S CORNER

FEAST OF SAINT SHARBEL AND SAINT ELIAS Dear Friends,

This Sunday we are celebrating the Feast of Saint Sharbel. This Saint has done incredible things for Lebanon and the whole world and his devotions have reached every corner of the world. We are happy to announce that this coming fall the relics of St. Sharbel will come to visit the United States. It will visit our Eparchy including our own parish.

As we come to the middle Season of Pentecost in this month of July, we also celebrate the 9th Sunday of Pentecost and the Feast of Saint Sharbel, the Patron of our Parish Community.

We have been making our way through the Gospel of St. Matthew in our Sunday Gospel readings. Week by week, we are seeing Matthew’s portrayal of Jesus’ ministry unfold before us. It certainly is an interesting journey.

Last Sunday at the 11:30 am Liturgy we were very honored and happy to welcome among us His Excellency, the Ambassador Mr. Yousif Ghafari. We are blessed to have many gifted leaders from and within our Community that have made a valuable contribution to society, including Ambassador Ghafari.

One of the blessings of our Catholic faith tradition is our practice of interceding and supporting each other through our prayer. We do that every time we gather for the Eucharist, especially during the Prayer of the Intercessions. Since we are connected to each other in faith, it is important that we support those in need with our prayers. While we regularly remember those who are sick and those who have died, we have additional opportunities to request the prayers of our community by calling the Church Office.

We also have our prayer list for those who are engaged and preparing for Marriage. And since we are a people who value life, our Respect Life Expecting Parents’ Prayer List is also in the bulletin. Should you wish to have anyone added to a particular prayer list, please call the Parish Office! This also includes a son or daughter marrying at another parish, or an out-of-town family member expecting a child. It is good for us to remember all of these intentions in our prayer.

Will you be away for some much needed vacation time this summer? If so, no need to lose contact with your parish family. Our weekly Sunday bulletin is posted on our parish website – www.stsharbelwarren. Be sure to check it out on those weekends when you are away from the parish.

This week we reach the mid-point of summer. Why is it that winter seems to drag on forever and summer passes in a flash?

Let’s be sure to take advantage of the family times and outdoor activities that make summer such a wonderful season of the year. May God continue to bless us with all that we need, and more

Sincerely yours,

Chorbishop Alfred Badawi

LITURGICALLY SPEAKING

SAINT CHARBEL, LEBANON

“Without always professing the three evangelical counsels

publicly, hermits ‘devote their life to the praise of God

and salvation of the world through a stricter separation

from the world, the silence of solitude and assiduous

prayer and penance.’”

—Catechism of the Catholic Church 920

PROPERTY UPDATE We are currently completing our due diligence on the new property prior to closing. We are completing our Phase 1 environmental analysis and our structural survey to determine where all of our utilities are located as well as what will have to take place with sewage and ground development. We are working with great companies to provide our surveys as well as the city and the county. Our agent has told us that the title company has a clear title to the land. Our Construction Committee has met twice in the last four weeks. We have begun looking at preliminary structural ideas. We are visiting other churches and reviewing options for the classrooms, rectories, and the gathering room. We are receiving bids and interviewing builders as well as architects. Requirements are that they have built churches. We will continue to update the website with our information. Paul Fayad

WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES PRAYER

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,

you have made us your sons and daughters

in the family of the Church.

May your grace and love help our families

in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.

May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit,

guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer

and to always seek your truth and live in your love.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
