Dear Friends,

The feast of the Holy Family was introduced into the liturgical calendar in 1921, promoted as a way to honor the Christian family. So today not only do we honor the Holy Family, we also focus on our own families and consider how we can be like the Holy Family. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in their devoted love and care for each other, and in the way Mary and Joseph raised and cared for Jesus, can be a model for our own families.

On behalf of Father Biedrzycki, Father Cornely, Deacon George and myself, I wish to extend our gratitude and prayers for your generosity to us over these Christmas holidays. The beautiful cards, Mass intentions, candies and goodies certainly brightened our days! May the Lord bless you abundantly for your loving support and generosity!

You may have noticed the beautiful Nativity crèche in the narthex this year. This Nativity display was donated to the parish through the generosity of Josephine “Jo” and Jack Forbes. We are most grateful for their generosity to the parish community.

I hope you have seen some of the pictures of the bounty from the Giving Tree for this year. It was VERY IMPRESSIVE! Thank you to all who participated in this charitable work to make the less fortunate feel the joy of Christmas giving! Many comments to the pictures mentioned what a great parish this is – and I could not agree more!

In the envelope packet you will receive in January there will be an envelope designated “50 for 50.” This Jubilee envelope will appear in each envelope packet until the conclusion of our Jubilee year in June 2018. We are giving parishioners an opportunity for a one time donation in appreciation for the blessings received during the fifty years as Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish. This gift concept was endorsed by both the Parish Pastoral Council and the Finance Council. Thank you in advance for any donation placed in this Jubilee envelope.

Monday, January 1, 2018 is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. This year IT IS NOT a Holyday of Obligation. However, we will be celebrating Mass on Monday at 9AM and 11AM. This is a perfect way to begin the New Year by beseeching the blessings of the Lord and his Blessed Mother on our family, home and country.

Just a reminder that the parish office will be closed until WEDNESDAY, January 3rd. The office will resume regular hours on Wednesday at 9AM.

May we all be blessed in this New Year through the intercession of our patron, Saint Robert Bellarmine, and may we be inspired to work each day for the greater glory of God!

With prayers,

Of Jesu

s, Mary

& Jo

The teen ministry wishes you and your families the

happiest of new years! We celebrated the end of the calendar year with a Christmas

celebration like no other. Complete with festive hats, sweaters and moods. We had an array of sweets to eat and a crazy Pollyanna.

Anyone nearby could definitely HEAR the festivities. Thank you to everyone who participated.

We've had a great first half of our ministry year and look forward to returning after the new year.

Stay tuned for 2017 in review......

FOCUS ON FAITH THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

Genesis 15:1-6;21:1-3; Hebrews 11:8, 11-12, 17-19; Luke 2:22-40

Jesus was raised in a devout Jewish family, and, as such, they followed

the traditions of visiting the Temple for holy days, presenting their son to

the community when he was a certain age, and raising him in the faith.

Looks like they were celebrating the fact that the family is the “domestic

Church,” where our children also have their first experience God, Jesus

and faith. How do you learn about and teach our faith, prayers and

Catholic traditions in your family?

Almighty God, you guard our hearts and homes. Raise us in faith.

Bind us ever closer to you in truth and love.

Teach us by your holy Word to be a people of justice and peace, honoring one

another with heartfelt kindness.

“Grieving allows us to heal, to remember with love rather

than pain. It is sorting process. One by one you let go of

things that are gone and you mourn for them. One by one

one you take hold of the things that have become a part of

who you are and build again.” Rachel Naomi Remen

Pope Francis on the Family and Prayer “I would like to ask you, dear families: Do you pray together from time to time as a family? Some of you do, I know. But so many people say to me: But how can we? …But in the family how is this done? After all, prayer seems to be something personal, and besides there is never a good time, a moment of peace… Yes, all that is true enough, but it is also a matter of humility, of realizing that we need God… all of us! We need his help, his strength, his blessing, his mercy, his forgiveness. And we need simplicity to pray as a family: simplicity is necessary! Praying the Our Father together, around the table, is not something extraordinary: it’s easy. And praying the Rosary together, as a family, is very beautiful and a source of great strength! And also praying for one another! The husband for his wife, the wife for her husband, both together for their children, the children for their grandparents….praying for each other. This is what it means to pray in the family and it is

what makes the family strong: prayer.”

CANCELED STAMPS - As the holidays approach and we receive more mail please remember to save your cancelled stamps for the Sisters of the Holy Cross to benefit their Ministry of the Poor. Leave a 1/4 inch border and place them in the box in the vestibule of the narthex. THANK YOU to all who have been faithful savers throughout the year.

50TH JUBILEE FUN FACT: On January 4, 1981, it was announced that there were plans to build a new church. The steeple had been remove the previous summer in order to restructure the roof, with the larger portion being paid by the original builder. The steeple was laying in the grass next to the Rectory garages since then, and many parishioners were asking when the steeple would be going back up. In light of this, the Capital Campaign for the new church was named the “Raise Our Steeple Again” Fund. The idea was to build a new, larger shell and to move all of the furnishings from the present Church into the new Church.
