Archbishop Peter Hundt has dispensed all from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass and advises "those who are elderly, frail, or at higher risk of complications from Covid-19, are encouraged to not attend public worship at this time." He is concerned about both our physical and spiritual health. Yet, the doors of St. Pius X Church are open to all. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is encouraged to make their own informed decision. SAINTS SPEAK

God's unfailing love for us is shown in Jesus; that is why Jesus accepts us with an acceptance deeper than our being. Jesus accepts us in the deepest roots of our being, the roots lying beneath our consciousness, from which our conscious lives arise. Thus our acceptance by Jesus is even more than our consciousness of him; that is why we can trust our whole selves--conscious and unconscious, known and unknown--to him. Arthur A. Vogel [20th C], Radical Christianity and the Flesh of Jesus

God dwells within. Our soul is God's palace!Conversation with him is without bounds or limits. As long as we will enter within ourselves, and as long a time as we will remain, we may enjoy this heavenly conversation in perfect liberty.St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, American, Founded the Sisters of Charity St. Vincent de Paul

JESUIT NEWS

Adam Hincks, SJ - Faith and ScienceThe University of St. Michael’s College and The University of Toronto Faculty of Arts & Science are pleased to announce that astrophysicist Dr. Adam Hincks SJ, will be the inaugural holder of the Sutton Family Chair in Science, Christianity and Cultures. The position, jointly supported by Arts & Science and an endowment to St. Michael’s from alumni members Dr. Marilyn and Thomas Sutton, will make a significant contribution to the body of scholarship on the intersection of these three key fields.

Good News from PickeringOn June 19, the feast of the Sacred Heart, Fr. Hendrikus Van Meijel, SJ took his final vows, followed by a BBQ for the community and eight Jesuits from Toronto.

Many of us know Fr. Henk who celebrates Mass on Vision TV and Salt and Light.

Martyrs Shrine Season to Continue Online Only Martyrs’ Shrine has reviewed the latest provincial and ecclesiastical COVID-19 guidelines, and has decided to focus its efforts and resources, this season, on providing prayer, pastoral care, and ministry, through new online mediums.

Its Church, and its Grounds, will not be reopening until 1 May 2021, marking the first time, in Martyrs' Shrine’s nearly 100-year history, that it has not been open to pilgrims. This is a temporary measure that illustrates the magnitude of the global pandemic

Martyrs’ Shrine relies almost entirely on the generosity of those who visit in-person to support its Mission of prayer and healing. There is now an urgent need for donations. Donations can be made online and are eligible for a receipt for income tax purposes.

The Jesuit Fathers who serve the apostolate are increasing their Ministry of Prayer by accepting petitions, requests, and Mass intentions, to be prayed for next to the relics of our Martyrs, through the shrine’s website at www.martyrs-shrine.com , and will continue to serve in a variety of out-reach ministries throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto and beyond. They continue to pray for the healing of our world, and all who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ELDER MINISTRY’SSTORY FOR THE WEEK

The Taste of the Candy Is Still in MyMouth

There was an old man who was admitted in ahospital. A young man would visit him every day, and sitwith him for more than one hour. He would helphim eat his food, and take his shower. He would then take him walking in the garden ofthe hospital. After that he would bring him back to his roomand help him to lie down. He would go away afterreassuring himself that the old man was doing well. One day the nurse entered his room, to give hismedicine and inspect his condition, and said to him:“May the Lord be always gracious to your kind andcaring son. Every day he visits you and shows greatcare.” The old man looked at her and closed his eyes andsaid to her: “I wish he was one of my children. He is anorphan from the neighbourhood where we live. Imet him one day in the past, crying at the door of aMosque, after his father died. I comforted him and brought some candy to puta smile on his face. I neither saw him not talked tohim after that for a very long time. When he grew up he came to discover where mywife and I were living. He would visit us every dayto inspect our conditions. When I later fell sick, he took my old wife hometo his home. He now comes to the hospital to seemy treatment everyday. One day I asked him “My son, why do you haveto deal with us and care about us so much?” He simply smiled and said: “The taste of thecandy is still in my mouth.”Moral: A beautiful deed with be harvested one dayby those who planted it, no matter how long it takes. No matter how much media talks about worldgoing bad, there will be always more good peoplethan bad ones. Therefore, never lose hope in being a good personand doing good deeds for others.SOURCE: www. funnyfunny.com/the-taste-of-the-candy-is-still-in-my-mouth/

100th ANNIVERSARY

OF THE CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF CANADA

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada (CWLC) was organized nationally on June 17, 1920and granted federal incorporation on December 12, 1923. This took place in Montreal under theleadership of Bellelle Guerin who became the first national president of the CWL. Bellelle realizedthat until there was national incorporated League it would not be recognized or have a voice at thefederal level of government on social and moral issues that were affecting women at the time.

Bellelle brought together several independent provincial Councils existing across Canada to form thenational league. The first of these Councils was founded in Edmonton in 1912 by KatherineHughes. Its main purpose was to care for the number of immigrant women and domestics arrivingin Canada at that time. The members of this Council met every train arriving in Edmonton towelcome these women and provided a safe, affordable hostel and a free job placement staffed byvolunteers. This was the beginning of the important work we still do in social justice andspirituality. The Edmonton CWL Council planted seeds of faith, hope and opportunity for manyimmigrant women and domestics. This was in the days before women could vote in provincial orfederal elections or hold public office.

With over 80,000 members across the country in 2019, the Catholic Women's League of Canada(CWLC) represents the largest organized body of Catholic women in Canada. The League isofficially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) as a lay associationof women and is also affiliated with the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations(WUCWO), a world-wide federation holding membership in the conference of InternationalCatholic Organizations (ICO) and having consultative status with agencies of the United Nations.

St. Pius X CWL became a charter member of the National CWL on May 30, 1974, making it thefirst CWL Council in the Archdiocese and the third in the province. Mary Goss was the firstPresident of the Council and Fr. Len Fischer, SJ was the first Spiritual Advisor. On May 27,1974a Council was founded at Holy Redeemer (Cathedral) Parish and on May 28th a council wasfounded at Immaculate Conception , Deer Lake. It is interesting to note that Beth Boulos-Ryan, avery active member of St. Pius X Parish Council was a founding (charter) member of theImmaculate Conception Council, Deer Lake and its first president.

Spiritual development continues to be the essence of the Catholic Women’s League. The activities of the League have broadened since its original purpose of helping immigrants, and now has an emphasis on respect for life from conception to natural death which extends to all creation; social justice; human dignity; the preservation of Christian family life; and, service to its members, the church, Canada and the world. Rita Janes,

President, St. Pius X Parish CWL
