las naciones se llenarán de angustia y de miedo por el estruendo de las olas del mar; la gente se morirá de terror y de
angustiosa espera por las cosas que vendrán sobre el mundo, pues hasta las estrellas se bambolearán. Entonces verán venir
al Hijo del hombre en una nube, con gran poder y majestad. Cuando estas cosas comiencen a suceder, pongan atención y
levanten la cabeza, porque se acerca la hora de su liberación. Estén alerta, para que los vicios, con el libertinaje, la
embriaguez y las preocupaciones de esta vida no entorpezcan su mente y aquel día los sorprenda desprevenidos; porque
caerá de repente como una trampa sobre todos los habitantes de la tierra. Velen, pues, y hagan oración continuamente,

1st Sunday of Advent
This is the 1st Sunday of Advent and our Advent Penance Service is scheduled for
Wednesday, December 5th at 7pm. We will also have additional priests available for
individual confessions.
El próximo domingo 2 de diciembre será el 1er domingo de Adviento y nuestro Servicio de
Penitencia de Adviento está programado para el miércoles 5 de diciembre a las 7 pm.
También tendremos sacerdotes adicionales disponibles para confesiones individuales.
Living Our Faith….. Parish Social Ministry I love advent! It is the perfect time to be silent and pray! But today’s Gospel really scares me! And, it’s just the first day of Advent! It is
so easy getting caught up with everything that is going on in the world. Famine everywhere, natural disasters, global warming, changes in
world climate, corruption, death, insecurities, and Jesus saying that there will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars. It can be fright-
ening, and we can easily pay more attention to our fears and our emotions than to the fact that Jesus has been transforming our lives. We
are not the same. We are becoming people of God! People that walk straight and vigilant to do what He calls us to do as we prepare for
His coming into the world. Yes, Advent IS the time to be silent and listen in prayer. It is a time to recognize our fears and sinfulness as
we allow Him to strengthen us as we stand straight and become vigilant to the sound of His voice calling us to take care of the poor, to
welcome those like Joseph and Mary seeking shelter and a safe place to bring the Savior into the world! O come, O come, Emanuel for
we place our trust in you!
Viviendo nuestra fe… Ministerio social parroquial ¡Me encanta el tiempo de adviento! ¡Es el momento perfecto para guardar silencio y orar! ¡Pero el evangelio de hoy realmente me asusta!
¡Y, es solo el primer día de Adviento! Es muy fácil quedar atrapado con todo lo que está sucediendo en el mundo. Hambre en todas par-
tes, desastres naturales, calentamiento global, cambios en el clima mundial, corrupción, muerte, inseguridades y Jesús diciendo que habrá
señales en el sol, la luna y las estrellas. Puede ser aterrador y fácilmente podemos prestar más atención a nuestros miedos y emociones
que al hecho de que Jesús ha estado transformando nuestras vidas. No somos los mismos. ¡Nos estamos convirtiendo en personas de
Dios! Personas que caminan rectas y vigilantes para hacer lo que Él nos pide que hagamos mientras nos preparamos para su venida al
mundo. Sí, el Adviento es el momento de guardar silencio y escuchar en oración. Es un momento para reconocer nuestros temores y pe-
cados mientras le permitimos que nos fortalezca mientras esperamos parados rectos y firmes y nos ponemos atentos al sonido de su voz
que nos llama a cuidar de los pobres, a dar la posada y bienvenida a aquellos como José y María que buscan refugio y ¡Un lugar seguro
para traer al Salvador al mundo! ¡Oh, ven, ven, Emanuel, porque confiamos en ti!

The Women’s Club meets on the second Thursday of each month. All parishioners and friends over 55 are eligible to go on our bus trips!
12/13 - Women's club Christmas meeting at Golden Corral at 10 am. Bring small gift for Christmas game exchange.
12/16 - Bus trip to Latin Mass at Annunciation Catholic church downtown. Leave SPV at 10 am. Cost: $3 for bus, mass donation, and lunch at Pappa's
or Luby's downtown.

1st Sunday of Advent
Dear friends,
Today we enter the season of Advent and our preparation for celebrating the Birth of Our Sav-
ior. The church seeks to engage our hearts and minds during this time so that our souls may be
ready to welcome the newborn King. It does so in so many different ways during this time and
I hope you take advantage of many of them.
Our St. Pius V Catholic School and our SINE Movement begin our many celebration and times
of prayer with fellowship and dancing this Saturday night and with our Winter Festival on Sun-
day from 10:00 to 3:00. Come and share in being one community in Christ.
On Wednesday we celebrate God’s forgiving love with our Advent Rite of Reconciliation. We
will have several priests to help with confessions in both English and Spanish and time for
prayer. We will begin at 7:00PM in the church so there will be no daily mass in the evening on
Wednesday.
On Friday, we begin our five-day celebration of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, with the Vigil
Masses for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation We will have
mass at 5:00PM in English and at 7:00 in Spanish. On the Feast Day itself, Saturday, Decem-
ber 8, we will have a bi-lingual mass at 8:00AM. We will also have the mass of the Immacu-
late Conception at 10:00, 12:00, and 2:00 in Spanish, masses at which we also celebrate
Quinceaneras and a Wedding.
We conclude our celebration of Mary with Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, beginning on
Tuesday, Dec. 11, with the Matachines at 10:00PM and mass at 11:00PM There will be fellow-
ship and food following the mass. On the 12th of December, we will have mass in English at
8:00AM and masses in Spanish at 6:00AM and 7:00PM. The evening mass will be followed
by a re-enactment of the apparition of Our Lady.
Our Posadas will be celebrated each evening from December 16-23 in the gym. Everyone is
invited to attend these.
Christmas Eve we will have masses at 4:00PM in English and at 7:00PM in Spanish. Midnight
mass be a bi-lingual mass and preceded by Carols at 11:30PM. Christmas Day we will have
mass at 10:00AM in English and at 12:00 Noon in Spanish. Then for the next 8 days we will
celebrate the Octave of Christmas.
With all these activities and liturgical celebrations, please also take time to pray on your own
and to quietly contemplate the great gift God gives in His Son made man.

Queridos amigos,
Hoy entramos en la temporada de Adviento y nuestra preparación para celebrar el nacimiento
de nuestro Salvador. La iglesia busca ocupar nuestros corazones y mentes durante este tiempo
para que nuestras almas estén listas para recibir al Rey recién nacido. Lo hace de muchas ma-
neras diferentes durante este tiempo y espero que aprovechen muchas de ellas.
Nuestra Escuela Católica de San Pío V y nuestro Movimiento SINE inician nuestras muchas
celebraciones y momentos de oración con compañerismo y baile este sábado por la noche y
con nuestro Festival de Invierno el domingo de 10:00 a 3:00. Ven y comparte en ser una comu-
nidad en Cristo.
El miércoles celebramos el amor y perdón de Dios con nuestro Rito de Reconciliación de Ad-
viento. Tendremos varios sacerdotes para ayudar con las confesiones en inglés y español y
tiempo para la oración. Comenzaremos a las 7:00 PM en la iglesia. Por eso, no tendremos una
misa diaria en la tarde del miércoles.
El viernes, comenzamos nuestra celebración de cinco días en honor de María, la Madre de
Jesús, con las misas de vigilia para la Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción, un día del precepto.
Tendremos la misa a las 5:00 p.m. en inglés y a las 7:00 p.m. en español. El mismo día de la
fiesta, el sábado 8 de diciembre, tendremos una misa bilingüe a las 8:00 AM. También tendre-
mos la misa de la Inmaculada Concepción a las 10:00, 12:00 y 2:00 en español, misas en las
que también vamos a celebrar las Quinceañeras y una boda.
Concluimos nuestra celebración de María con la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, co-
menzando el martes 11 de diciembre, con los Matachines a las 10:00 PM y la misa a las 11:00
PM. Habrá convivencia y comida después de la misa. El 12 de diciembre, tendremos una misa
en inglés a las 8:00 AM y las misas en español a las 6:00 AM y las 7:00 PM. La misa de la tar-
de será seguida por la Presentación de la aparición de Nuestra Señora.
Nuestras Posadas se celebrarán cada noche del 16 al 23 de diciembre en el gimnasio. Todos
están invitados a asistir a estos.
La Nochebuena tendremos misas a las 4:00 PM en inglés y a las 7:00 PM en español. La misa
de medianoche será una misa bilingüe y precedida por villancicos a las 11:30 p.m. El día de
Navidad tendremos misa a las 10:00 AM en inglés y al mediodía en español. Luego, durante
los próximos 8 días celebraremos la Octava de Navidad.
Con todas estas actividades y celebraciones litúrgicas, también tómese un tiempo para orar y
contemplar en silencio el gran regalo que Dios le da a su Hijo hecho hombre.
Que tengamos un Adviento bendito y santo.
