Relative of St. Philip’s Parishioner Canonized This Weekend Last March, Pope Francis announced that Bl. Jose Luis Sanchez Del Rio will be can-onized on October 16, 2016, in Rome. Bl. Jose was the great uncle to Claudia De la O and Miguel Huerta Sanchez, both pa-rishioners here at Saint Philip, and so we have a special reason to celebrate this event in our parish. Bl. Jose was born in Sahuayo, Michoacan (Mexico) on March 28, 1913. He fought as a young boy with a group called the “Cristeros” in defense of the faith; be-cause he would not denounce his faith, he was persecuted and killed on February 10, 1928, at the age of fifteen. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on Novem-ber 20, 2005. For us, he is a constant reminder that the call to follow Christ is for all people whether young or old.

Return Your Haitian Pilgrim Coin Boxes! Welcome to Fall! October blesses us with cooler weather and the closing of our Christmas in July 2016 fundraising campaign. Haitian Pilgrims will be on the patio before all the Masses the weekends of October 15/16 and 22/23 to receive your coin boxes. Our hope and prayer is that you have been experi-encing solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Hai-ti, placing your loose change in the coin box you picked up in July. Just one dollar per day since our July campaign would amount to $98.00! How many of us have spent more than that on our daily coffee, lunch or take-out dinners? Small sacrifices by many allow life changing opportuni-ties for the poorest of the poor in the Western Hemisphere – the people of Haiti. Father Ingrid sends his sincere gratitude to all the people of St. Philip the Apostle for their continued love and generosity. The look of happiness on the faces of the children and teachers at the school is a reflection of your kindness. He offers prayers for continued blessings for ‘our friends in Texas’. Father Josnel Constant, the pastor of St. Francois Xavier in Canon sends messages of joyous gratitude for your help as we begin our first project of adding much needed classrooms for the school. God Bless you for your continuing support of Haitian Pilgrims’ commit-ment to helping the poor. Please direct all questions to Sue Ogle, [email protected] 972.955.5701.

Attention Women of St. Philip’s! The next general meeting of the Women's Club will be FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, at 7:00 PM in the CLC. Please join us and meet fellow lady parishion-ers. We will be discussing upcoming holiday activities/charities. We will also be drawing names of retired nuns (from a home in Ft. Worth) and fulfilling their Christmas wishes. Hope you can join us!

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will

wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the

air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much

more valuable than they? --Matthew 6:25-26

Our Building Project

TOGETHER IN CHRIST: BUILDING ON FIRM FOUNDATIONS

The Capital Campaign to fund our building project: TOGETHER IN CHRIST~ BUILDING ON FIRM FOUNDATIONS

A Campaign of the Advancement Foundation of the Diocese of Fort Worth will begin the weekend of October 22/23.

Please prayerfully prepare for this next step in our project.

Who will be asked to support the campaign? Every registered parish family will be asked to be a part of this effort. It is our hope that every parish family will make a truly sacrificial pledge to Together in Christ: Building on Firm Foundations. What is the Advancement Foundation and why are they collecting the money? The Advancement Foundation is a separate entity established by the Diocese of Fort Worth to support the fundraising ef-forts of the Diocese and its parishes and schools. The Advancement Foundation will accept your gifts in a fund designated specifically for the Together in Christ Capital Campaign. How will the campaign funds affect parish offertory? Throughout our building project, parishioners will be asked to make pledges above and beyond regular Sunday giving, so we do not expect to see any decrease in the Sun-day offertory. In other parishes, similar campaigns have actually caused increases in parish offertory giving by rais-ing the sights of parishioners and bolstering their commit-ment to the church. These and other frequently asked questions are now post-ed on our website on our new Capital Campaign page. Go to stphilipcc.org/capital-campaign-faq for more infor-mation about our Capital Campaign “Together in Christ: Building on Firm Foundations.”

How much of our Phase I budget (estimated at $25.8 million) do we need to raise before we put a shovel in the ground?

The Diocese of Fort Worth requires that we have certain fund-raising goals met before we begin construction. We need:

• At least 40% of the budget in cash, plus

• At least an additional 25% of our budget in pledges

This means we need at least $10.3 million in cash, plus at least an additional $6.5 million in pledges before we can start construc-tion. The remainder of the project’s cost (up to 35% of our budget) may be covered by a ten-year loan from the Diocese.

Religious Formation—Preschool-12 The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. According to an ac-count by fifteenth-century Dominican, Alan de la Roch, Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 after he had been praying and doing severe penances be-cause of his lack of success in combating the Albigensian heresy. Mary praised him for his valiant fight against the heretics and then gave him the Rosary as a mighty weapon, explained its uses and efficacy, and told him to preach it to others. All elementary classes are learning about the Rosary and the 4th and 5th graders in Mrs. Maynor's and Mrs. Keith's class took it one step further by making their own rosaries out of play dough. Our Lady of the Rosary, Pray for us!

October 25 and November 8- Parent/Child classes for First Penance from 7-8 PM in the Church. Please attend all 3 classes with your child.

October 23 - Trunk or Treat 3-5 PM. Dress up as your favorite “Heavenly Hero”. We can’t wait to see what saints show up this year!

November 3 – SPY Fortis “Rise Above” from 7-8:30PM in the Youth Room

November 6 – World Youth Day North Texas, RSVP to Victoria

November 12-13 – Lock-In-For-Life, RSVP to Victoria

November 17 - First Penance Celebration at 5 PM in the Church

Father(s) __________________________ (and) _________________________ continue Christ's ministry of working in the vineyard by sustaining and guiding your holy people. Bless our priests. Let your Spirit uphold them always in his service to the people of our parish. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
