Life is a Journey

Our life journey is meant to move everyone toward God ..our final des na on. Our first reading share an important moment in salva on history: the Jews are liberated by Cyrus and allowed to return to God-given home, Jerusalem. In our Gospel reading, John describes how Jesus moves from this me and place to his life of glory …and it is through his suffering on the cross. Our life as Chris ans, as disciples, parallels Jesus’ life in some way. Our journey is one of faith ..and we believe that Our Lord accompanies us on our journey ..as Paul reminds us that it is by grace that we are saved, in joys and in crosses. There is no success without Christ. And through our faith lives we bring Christ to others. St. Paul speaks of God’s grace “the immeasurable riches of his grace..”. We might consider “grace” to be like “energy”. That just happens to be this week’s theme in “Lent 4.2” …considering where our energy comes from for our appliances, hea ng and air-condi oning, etc. In the Gospel, Jesus says that He, God, is the light. Our “Prayer” for this week expresses this very well.

In our Lenten days of thoughtfulness and care for those in need, let us remember our

Haiti Medical Mission. We at St. Philip collect Extra Strength Tylenol or the generic equivalent, as

other parishes collect other needs that the Medical Mission uses. So as they

prepare for another Mission, we are invited to help them. Thank you if you are able to help. Thank you for

your prayer and care for the people of Haiti. You can place the Tylenol in the big box near the Haiti cards in

church. Thank you!

¡Gracias!

Upcoming Roof Work on the Church - An evaluation of our nearly-80-year-old church roof has resulted in the determination that the six “barrel dormers” on the church roof need to be replaced. The existing dormers have been repaired and patched numerous times over the years, and with the input of multiple roofing professionals our Building & Grounds Committee and Finance Council have concluded that at this time to optimize the future performance of the roof we should have the multiple existing layers of roofing material removed, and replaced with standing seam curved copper panels. You will see this work taking place during the month of March. This roof work follows the snow guard work and the slate repairs completed on our roof in 2017. Further work is anticipated on other aspects of our roof in the future, but the roof work believed to be the most critically needed at this time is with the barrel dormers as described above. This project is being funded by a portion of a very generous bequest from the estate of Richard and Gladys Foley (who passed away in 2011 and 2004, respectively) upon the death of their daughter Jayne Foley in September 2017. We are extraordinarily grateful to the Foley family for their foresight and generosity to continue to support the ministry of St. Philip Parish. A bequest like this is a wonderful way to continue a family's legacy and we hope you and your family may consider to remember St. Philip in your planned giving and will. We wish to again thank the Foley family and wish to keep them in our prayers. This bequest comes at a time when significant repairs to the church are needed and it truly is a blessing this bequest allowed us to complete this work.

4th Sunday of Lent

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son…” - J 3:16

Of all the wonderful gifts that God has given to us, the gift of His own Son is truly the greatest. How can we ever thank God for a gift like that? God does not ask

us to sacrifice our own precious firstborn, but He does ask that we are grateful and generous with our

God-given gifts. That we nurture and develop them and return with increase.
