A BIG THANK YOU - to all who came out and attended the St. Philip Neri Corn Feed last Sat-urday. It was our largest event ever as we ran out of food and had to get more. Thank you to those who bought tickets, and those who donated a prize for the raffle. Everyone’s effort and support made this annual parish family event a success. Roughly 495 people were served. St. Philip Neri Golf Tournament for Parish Roof Project

Sunday, September 22nd at the Napoleon Country Club Registration starting at 12:30PM Tournament starting at 1PM Team format: 4 person scramble; no handicap is needed. All

prizes based on flights with gross score. Entry Fee: $55/player; paid the day of the tournament. Entry Fee Includes: Golf, range balls, dinner to follow, prizes, and carts provided if needed.

Not a golfer and want to join us for supper? Serving will begin at 5:30 PM for the price of $10/plate. Children under 12 will be $5.

Sacristans needed! There is an urgent need for sacr istans to set up and get ready for Mass, and to put things away after the Mass is completed. Sacristans are needed for the Care Center, and weekend Masses here at St. Philip’s. If you are interested, there will be a thor-ough training provided. Call the parish office for details.

What does true Humility look like?

Like in the first reading, the focus in today’s gospel is on humili-ty. To be humble, according to Jesus, is to not exalt oneself, thinking of oneself more highly than one ought. Rather, the humble person chooses the lowest place at the table. That person chooses not to pursue status but to let other people be considered greater than they are. Still, God will reward the humble person in the end: “For every one who exalts himself will be hum-bled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted … [and] will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” This does not mean our motiva-tion for being humble should be the reward that we will receive. That is false humility. True humility, as Jesus teaches, does not seek repayment. We are to serve others, not expecting to be served in return. We should love others, whether or not they love us back. And one of the best ways to live out hu-mility, according to Jesus, is to care for “the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.” It takes true humility to associate oneself with the downtrodden and outcasts of society, just as Jesus himself did. And to care for the needy (i.e. to give alms, as the first reading talked about) is not just about writing a check to a charity. Jesus’ parable indicates that we need to encounter the poor. By inviting them to the banquet, it left no room for the poor to be out of sight and out of mind. True humility involves going out of our way and out of our comfort zone to interact with those most in need. It involves not just giving money, but giving ourselves.

Anointing of the Sick – Anyone wishing to receive this sacrament is asked to call Fr. Pfeifer at the office or on his cell. Please notify Fr. Pfeifer upon hospital admission of any family members as this infor-mation cannot be reported unless you tell the hospital staff the patient is Catholic AND belongs to St. Philip Neri in Napoleon. This is the only way that Fr. can know when parishioners are in the hospital.
