MEMORIAL DAY MASS: The Knights of Columbus invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Memorial Day Mass in the Grotto on Monday, May 28th at 11am. We’d also like you to join us immediately following for lunch in the Parish Center. This is to Honor the Men and Women who’ve served our country in war and in peace. Names of our deceased will be read aloud, so please let us know whose names to read. We also invite our active duty Military personnel so we can Honor you. Call John Miller at 301-473-4053 or email [email protected] ARCHDIOCESAN MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT : May 19th & 20th is the annual attendance count. The ushers will be passing out forms & pencils, one form per family. Please complete both sides of this form. For example, if there is one male aged 40-49 in your family who’s present at the Mass, put a “1” in that box & do the same for all the people in your family who are at that MASS. If other members of your family attend another Mass, they’ll fill out a form then. This information helps the Archdiocese and the parish in planning & in ministry. Thank you for your cooperation. SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE : We will be having a planning meeting on May 8th at 7 pm in Sappington Hall. This will be a long range planning meeting for the upcoming year. Any person interested in helping promote Catholic social teachings is invited to attend.

MASS FOR PARENTS (AND THEIR FAMILIES) WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD: St. Michael’s, Mt. Airy, will have a special Mass for Parents who have lost a child on Wed evening, May 23rd, 2012 at 7:30 pm. We feel it is important to remember our child no matter how long or short a time it has been since they have died. Whether our child has died in the womb or much later in life and under all circumstances, we wish to honor their memory. There will be testimonies from those who will share how they have coped with their loss & we will ask God to continue to strengthen us. There will also be a time for individual prayer after the Mass for anyone who wishes. Please RSVP to Linda Gasch at [email protected] or call 410-489-7985

ST VINCENT DE PAUL: Jesus says, “Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” By helping the poor we can indeed bear much fruit, and we find that with Jesus we can do everything. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul shows that you are a disciple of Jesus as it brings your love to those who live in fear, doubt, and loneliness. Your donations in the poor box & volunteers are needed. 301-662-4676.

HUNGER-FREE COMMUNITIES PARTNERSHIP: If your income is low because of unemployment, underemployment, reduced pension benefits, or inadequate health insurance, think of Food Stamps as insurance into which you’ve already paid premiums and can now provide help. Catholic Charities’ Hunger-Free Communities Partnership offers application assistance for Food Stamps. An outreach worker for the HFCP is available to meet with families and individuals at the Walkersville food bank on Thursdays from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Call

for additional meeting times & locations in Carroll & Frederick Counties. Contact the Outreach Worker at (443) 939- 6031. You are the expert on your grief but we hope to show you are not alone and by sharing the grief is more bearable. Consider joining us for Seasons of Hope, starting on May 9th, 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the meeting room under the parish office building (enter from lower parking lot) Call Rose 301-829-0901 or Marybeth at 301-845-6572 if you have any questions or if we can be of any help. PARISH NURSE NOTES: Gardening “I went down to the grove of walnut trees and out to the valley to see the new spring growth….” Song of Solomon 6:11 Spring gives us such pleasure as we see everything coming back to life & it’s a reminder of the new life that we have through Christ’s resurrection. Gardening is a pleasure for most of us, but it is also an exercise & can lead to injuries. Raking, mulching, planting, trimming & digging are good physical activity yet can result in pain & stiffness in our neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, knees and back. Remember good body mechanics: When lifting heavy bags of dirt or mulch keep your back straight, bend your knees, lift with the legs & hold objects close to your body. If shoveling, lift the dirt & turn the entire body to empty. Don’t twist. Change it up: Use different muscle groups & minimize the repetitive stress placed on joints & extremities by frequently changing activities. Use a cushion, stool, or small bench when weeding: The support helps reduce stress placed on knees & spine from gardening movements. Enjoy the time in God’s earth but do it with a mind to prevent injury. ASSISTANTS NEEDED – it pays to volunteer! We need a minimum of 12 volunteers to assist with the registration process for our upcoming parish directory photo sessions. Volunteers will earn $25 product credits through Lifetouch. Your teen(s) can earn community service hours too! We are seeking one or two volunteers per day. Split shifts are available. Dates: May 8th to 11th (3:00 – 9:00 pm); May 15th to May 18th (3:00 – 9:00 pm); May 22nd to May 25th (3:00 – 9:00 pm). Contact Robyn Jacobs at 301-865-9984 or [email protected]. There is still time to sign up for Photos! Visit www.stpeters-libertytown.org for more details.

Marriage Tip Make the extra effort. Husbands, it’s tempting to forego those dating niceties. Open-ing her door, pulling out her chair, walking on the curb side may seem old fashioned and sexist, but sometimes it’s fun to be treated like a queen. Go overboard and laugh about it. Wives, it’s tempting to forego those dating niceties. At times dress up for your honey (an attractive dress, heels, makeup).Visit: www.foryourmarriage.org Baptism Prep Classes - meets on Tuesday, May 15th , from 7 – 9 pm in the Birch Library. You need only one godparent and this person must be Catho-lic; to have celebrated Confirmation; is at least 16 years of age, and is practicing the faith (attending mass each week and celebrating the sacraments.) Marriage, Divorce & Annulments from a Catholic Perspective-The Tribunal of the Arch-diocese of Baltimore will be giving a presentation in our area concerning divorce and annulment from the Catholic perspective. This presentation will be helpful for divorced Catholics & those divorced who wish to marry Catholics. Session will be Monday, May 7th @ 7PM at St Ignatius Loyola in Ijamsville (Multipurpose Bldg. C). No prior registration re-quired-call 410-547-5533 for further information. Neighborhoods at Prayer - The Family Rosary is a bedrock devotion for the family. The Blessed Mother asks all Christians to pray the Rosary daily. The Rosary is the "rose garden" of sanctity for children. The Holy Spirit teaches us: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). We are en-couraging families to gather together weekly or bi-monthly with your neighbors to pray the rosary to-gether. Pray for your families, your neighbors, the Church and all other needs. The family that “prays together, stays together.” We will provide you with rosary booklets to get you started and rosaries, if you need them, to begin praying in your homes with your fellow neighbors. Contact Carolyn if you are interested in participating.

Bereavement Ministry Begins Support Group – May 9 th As you know the loss of someone you love is never easy. That is why the Bereavement

Ministry is starting here at St. Peters. As part of that ministry, we are offering a support group for those who are grieving. The first session of our group will be meeting on Wednesday evenings from 7 o’clock to 8:30 beginning on May 9th for six weeks. Our plan is to have another group in the fall so if this is not the time, know there will be other opportunities. We are using the Seasons of Hope program as a guide. This program is rooted in Catholic tradition of conveying God’s consolation through scripture, prayer, and reflection. Of course, this is not a Catholic only group but is open to anyone who is grieving. Most importantly, this group is to help you walk this journey with others who are experiencing similar but unique grief.

We hope that the idea of a support group is something you will consider. If you are grieving and you need tender loving care; be gentle with yourself. Being with others who have gone through the same thing can be comforting. Some of you may feel your friends have been sympathetic but now are expressing that you need to “get over it” but all of this takes time. There is no right timetable. You have a story and it needs to be heard. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness. We are here to be in communion with one another to comfort and serve our church family.

If you wish to ask any questions or would like to join us, please give us a call. Marybeth - 301-845-6572 or Rose - 301-829-0901. We will have some materials so we would like an idea of who will be joining us. Please pass this information on to anyone you feel may benefit from what our ministry is offering. Marybeth Terrell and Rose Grimes, Ministers of Consolation.
